Two million caches
It appears that Gc.com are not far off their two millionth active cache. There are some interesting stats in this image from their blog site
Re: Two million caches
I tried looking at that graphic this morning. The colours are horrible, and it is almost impossible to read! (Unless there is an issue with my monitor!)

No you are right. Shades on the graphs are almost indistinguishable. Looks like it was done in Powerpoint in about 1996.Hoojar wrote:I tried looking at that graphic this morning. The colours are horrible, and it is almost impossible to read! (Unless there is an issue with my monitor!)
Some interesting stats though.

Re: Two million caches
Nope, it looks crap. And there have already been complaints made by others about the washed out colours of the various national flags. Some saying its against some countries flag ettiquites for a flag to be shown in the wrong colour.
Its a shame also that you cant hover over parts of the graphic for links to various things mentioned. I would like to read the profiles of the 6 cachers with over 50000 finds. I did have a look at the Rainbow Thermohydro vents cache. No finds since it was placed in 2002. Not surprising really.

Moneydork should be on this list now, and he'd be a close second.Yurt wrote:And Australia here:Bundyrumandcoke wrote:I would like to read the profiles of the 6 cachers with over 50000 finds.

Re: Two million caches
Anyone going to try and hide the two millionth cache? I'm guessing there will be a increase in placed caches over the next few days with this aim! Too many factors to be able to tell when it's going to happen and try and be that cache hider...

Re: Two million caches
Wouldn't surprise me if the HQ already had a cache ready to be labelled the 2 millionth ... perhaps being placed by the originator of the game.
Any idea where the 1 millionth cache is?

Re: Two million caches
You could have more than one 2 millionth active cache, if it gets published, then a few get deleted before more are published.
Can I ask the local reviewers to go on an archiving spree of a lot of unmaintained ones just after the counter clicks over

The 1 millionth cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... id=1000000
The 2 millionth cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... id=2000000 which was in Nov 2010
And the 3 millionth one http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... id=3000000 (June 2012)
And now were up to about 3,472,000 which means there are almost 1.5 million archived (or unpublished) caches out there...

Re: Two million caches
I noticed the number was over 1.98 million but dropped back below that today? Mass archiving going on?

Re: Two million caches
I really only started paying attention to the number yesterday morning, but the total has definitely gone backwards. Maybe some CO's are finally archiving caches that are no longer viable?

Re: Two million caches
Just saved 15 caches by adopting them.
Hopefully a powertrail gets published soon so we can all stop waiting.
