Trig caches
We found a couple of trig points yesterday that aren't listed on the GCA site. "Jolly" S31° 34.762, E152° 47.931 and the one on Middle Brother (just south of Camden) around S31° 42.115, E152° 40.740.
How do we tell "Geocaching Australia" to create these 2 trig points so that we can post them, or under the liberal guidelines of GCA, do we just create them ourselves?
Thanks

Re: Trig caches
You create them as a 'trigpoint' type then they become community maintainable. If you'd like to, you can put something at the bottom saying "Source: pprass" or similar (please feel free to do so!)pprass wrote:How do we tell "Geocaching Australia" to create these 2 trig points so that we can post them, or under the liberal guidelines of GCA, do we just create them ourselves?

Re: Trig caches
Thanks - I've created them. Looks like they are auto published.
It felt a bit weird to create a cache and also log it as a find though - but only for a little while

Re: Trig caches
I found one on top of the bega resevoir today. According to geoscience australia it is an offical trig so I'm not to worried about that. However as we can't actually reach it can it still be made a trig cache? You can easily get a photo of it from the road at the base of the resevoir but could this be considered close enough for this type of cache?

Re: Trig caches
50m is generally considered "close enough".

Re: Trig caches
I felt the same when I did the same for an unlisted trigpoint at the top of Mt. Larcom.pprass wrote:Thanks - I've created them. Looks like they are auto published.

Re: Trig caches
I copy & paste the wording from an original listing (Sept 09), add any relevant paragraphs that describe my experience & once created, add my find. It then becomes obvious who added the Trig. I credit Geocaching Australia as the owner of the Trig so my geoname only appears as the FTF.
Re: Trig caches
When I list a new trig, I also always credit Geocaching Australia as the owner of the listing. My name is only on the FTF log, as you can see from many of the Blue Mountains trigs.

Re: Trig caches
There's a trig on a water reservoir at Hornsby/Hornsby Heights that doesn't appear on the trig list. I found a locationless trigs category on GC where there are over 300 listed. Only found this by looking at local archived caches.
#51 Great Southern Land: (5) That's the Trig.
I might go and log this one later.

Re: Trig caches
I found a Q150 GPS mark today, does this qualify as a trig point?

Re: Trig caches
Technically they are survey marks not trig points.
Re: Trig caches
OK thanks,
Logged it as a Qld State Survey mark instead, my first locationless

Re: Trig caches
Is there a way to find out whether a trig is a bonafide trig point? (Is there somewhere on the Geoscience Australia site?). The Wylie Trig is mentioned repeatedly and listed in information in the Waite Conservation Reserve, as being the highest point in the reserve. We found a survey mark plate there but no typical black disk beacon. So we don't know if its an actual trig point or just a survey mark.

Re: Trig caches
Might have just answered my own question. http://www.propertyassist.sa.gov.au/plb/index.html# lists it as a trig station (serial number matches up). I'm going to take that as a good enough source to go and create it.....Team Wibble wrote:Is there a way to find out whether a trig is a bonafide trig point?
