Geocaching Live Software
Hi,
This is for all the Geocachers who dont have a dedicated GPS or the iPhone.
I have just found and installed the Beta version of the geocachinglive software on my LG Renoir Mobile phone.
So far it works! and certainly beats GoogleMaps. If anyone else out there is looking for geocaching software for there mobile phone give this a try:
http://live.geocaching.com/
I will be testing it this weekend and post the results in the next couple of days.....

Re: Geocaching Live Software
Yes it does, so far the interface looks good and is reasonably usable.
My GF Shr00mbait is currently using the PC based version of the software to download the maps of perth so we can test it in online & offline mode.... Hopefully if it works well it will mean no data charges

I'm just downloading some maps for offline use, but have to put some credit on the ol' mobile to download the ap to the phone! The screenshots look good though!

Re: Geocaching Live Software
Well so far i have to say the software works pretty well. We have found 9 caches in the last 24 hours quite easily.
There are some still obviuos bugs in the software, mainly in the menu system....when trying to change settings and customise it freezes when confirming, which then requires to be shutdown then restarted.
Other than that, the interface could be prettied up (but it is a beta).
Overall I will; definately keep using it, it certainly works thats for sure, we are going to tyr and see if we can use the online google maps database in the next few days. I prefer that to the Opensource maps.
Will let you know how that goes.

I know, hopefully more people will hear about it
So far I have been using it for almost two weeks and I have to say its great going paperless caching. As i said before the only real issue with it so far is for my phone It freezes when I try to change the settings
Anyone else been having that problem?

Re: Geocaching Live Software
I tried it out a few months back, but couldn't work out a way to manually enter waypoints, or to get it to download the details of a specific cache (by enter the GCxxxx code). Has anyone worked out how to do that kind of thing?

Hi all,
I have worked out that when changing settings on the app, once you press ok you need to let it run. It takes about 5 minutes for the settings ot go through, then the application shuts down and you can restart with the new settings saved.
Still trying to work out how to download a cache using the GC code, willl update you once and If I can work it out

Re: Geocaching Live Software
I thought i would post this here as well. If you want google maps satellite photos:
In the settings press whatever your options key is and choose add new mapserver (call it Google satellite or something), Then enter the following: (painstakingly, I know)
http://khm1.google.com/kh/v=39&hl=en&x= ... Y]&z=[INVZ]
Choose WGS84/Spherical and assuming no one has typed anything incorrectly you should get google maps satellite photos! Sometimes it only seems to work at a zoom level of less than 5km, not quite sure why.

Re: Geocaching Live Software
Hi Peoples
Is anyone having issues with adding the different map servers? As everytime I aatempt to add a new mapserver to my phone (LG Renoir) GCLive just does nothing then closes and I cannot add a new mapserver. I am assuming its the phone and software incompatability....
Any advice
