1817 Days all alone
1817 Days all alone
1817 days is how long my first cache has been sitting there, at the edge of the Gibson Desert, waiting for someone to find it.
I think an Australian record for a virgin, but is anyone going to have a look for it? Red Devils had a try at it last year.
Nichols Knob its called, and it's mate Helena Spring up the road is also all alone.
I know they're vacation caches, but I have the opportunity to place another one in a spot that will make these two like a trip to the cinema and back. Does anyone want me to place another one? I'm not really fussed one way or the other.
Cheers

If it were me, i would have great satisfaction in finding a couple of caches like that, and if there was something a bit tougher placed, then that would make things even more worthwhile
Maybe a couple more caches in the area (by the FTFer on these???) and it could entice more people to give this tough trip a go
for me though, it would be a great trip, even without doing the caches. the FTF on such old cache would just make it even better

For what it's worth, some pics from the Canning Stock Route Jn with the Helena Spring Track. I attempted this cache (for a couple of Kms). In 2005, the track was very over grown...though the first K or so was OK (pic) I decided against it. Fuel etc.... Dick Smith + is heli would have been handy.

How come they don't show on the dashboard of the states they are in. State dashboards seem to only show unfound caches from 2008caughtatwork wrote:Yes, the two caches you mention are indeed the oldest unfound caches in the country.
Cape Baron Geese is the next closest at 1,153 days.
.... or would some lists suddenly become too long
Thanks

Your last assumption is correct. 90 days is the limit.calumphing_four wrote:How come they don't show on the dashboard of the states they are in. Thank's for your replies.
I don't think I will put another really remote cache out there - There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest, at least not on this forum. Bit to hard hey??
Don't let that stop you all putting some remote ones out there though - they're the ones I generally go for.
Cheers

I've placed and found a few remote caches, though not quite that far out. Did get first to find on one at Coongie Lakes "The Travelling Six" which was almost a year old. The ones I have placed out there don't get found very often - or at all over summer. But I still enjoy reading the logs when they do.
I have also found cachers to be generally helpful with remote caches. If it needs fixing and they have a spare container etc on hand they will do it (as I do) rather than just log that it needs maintenance. One of these days I will be able to afford to buy a serious 4WD and travel around the country - hmmm, should check Tuesday's OzLotto ticket I suppose

Holidays are booked - End of September around the WA Public Holiday.
I'm going to try to a do some maintenance on Nichols Knob.
It's been over six years now since I put the cache down - with only one attempt to find it. I'd better have a look, make sure it's OK.
I might pick up a couple of the GCR caches whilst I'm in the area.
Cheers

You could put a second one out, but do it as a Multi, with the first point in Perth. Then'll you entice all those cachers that don't like having their closest unfound cache listed within a couple of kms of their home, to venture out.equinox wrote:I don't think I will put another really remote cache out there - There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest, at least not on this forum. Re: 1817 Days all alone
Put another one out there, even if it doesn't get found for years ... like Nichols Knob, it will become a cache to eat away at cachers psyches, until they, must, MUST GO AND ATTEMPT IT!
I know I wanted to attempt Nichols Knob. Came within a few hundred K's. (haha) But no dice.

Re: 1817 Days all alone
A cache doesn't have to be in the middle of a desert to feel all alone.
I have a cache WITHIN 200KMS of Melbourne CBD, that has been unfound for 1000 days now

Even my drive by cache

Is almost 500 days lonely
