They shot Scotty

For those who are interested, James Doohan, who played Montgomery Scott (Scotty) in the original Star Trek series, was shot into space today, well at least his ashes were. He died about 2 years ago, and if I remember correctly, it was his wish that his remains were put into space. They were, but only to an altitude of about 160 miles before (I suppose) the rocket burned up on reentry.

It's a shame that they did not give it enough boost to get it to break free from the Earths Gravity :?:

Here's an article from the local paper about the event - Scotty spent his last years in Seattle, hence the coverage.

Also explains a little about why the launch was sub-orbital rather than a one-way flight - NASA defines "space" as above 50mi, so with this trip Scotty finally earned his astronaut wings :wink: .
