Gheez your lucky, My wife dosen't even get out of the car, thats if she comes. The kids can't help if there is any chance of spiders. Makes family camping hard with out a nearby Motel.

At the moment I'm appealing "Canyons are dangerious and stupid". So I guess I'm not doing the dishes for a while. "There could be a knife in under those suds, I'm not sticking my wrist in that! That would be dangerious and stupid"

When I arrive at a location I generally lay my GPS on my pack or hat and do a quick "obvious place" search which lasts for about ten minutes. After that I check the GZ again and adjust as required then conduct a more through search in 1/4's from the GZ out to about 40 meters. Circles make me dizzy.

I love taking my kids as they are teenagers and it is fantastic for their self esteem if they get to find the cache before "the olds"

After 10 minutes searching she gets frustrated and walks off...

Nor mine... Although caching is so much more fun when she is there and enjoying it!

Great tips from all. We are newbies to geocaching but as a mod on another forum I have quickly learned to seek out the FAQ and tips pages - Great tips and all the obvious questions are answered.

Love the layout of this site - cant wait to look around a bit more

That's the one tip that I think has saved me every time.<p><p>After the usual initial frantic scrabble around, I stop and say 'If I were hiding a cache here, where would I hide it?....Probably in those rocks(or wherever)...' thats usually what gives me the find..<p><p>That and always bring a Wiggles tape in the car to keep Charlotte happy... dragging a sulky 3 y.o around the bush isn't much fun!

One of my kids ( 8 ) loves the tech part of the find - ozi and the maps and GSAK but is happy to wait in the car when it comes to the search.

The other (5) likes the hunt.

Hi, As a newbie to this site I figure if you are going to make a mistake this is the forum to do it. So dont know if I should have started a new topic or just posted like this.
My question is how do you get the stars above your team logo on the left hand column. I thought it would be by putting in your Geocaching.com user number in your profile however that hasnt worked. Cheers

Just go to the main forum page, and underneath the General Chit-Chat line, you will see a link to Update your Stars

Then just follow the instructions...
