just interested to know what brand/model GPS everyone uses.

I've got a Magellan 3000XL but never used that for geocaching since i've only just found this site and will be getting a new GPS next week,
Magellan Explorist 600

So what do you use?

I'm an 'other' so I'll qualify that here:

I own a Navman PiN
(plus a Garmin Geko)

As for which is better.... well..... depends on what day you ask me..........

Never really been one for pissing contests (Ford/Holden et al) so I voted other. I have a Magellan and that's all I have used for Geocaching so I can't say it's better having no comparison...

How about an option for both

Personally I have always liked Garmin GPS's. And when I went out to buy a GPS I found the Garmin easier to use and I like its Mapsource program better than Discover Aus. But I guess it all comes down to personal taste. The Yellow etrex series do have their down side as well.

I have 2 GPS units, both Garmin. A yellow eTrex and the new wrist mounted Foretrex. Haven't bothered with a mapping one, the laptop handles that for me!

At the Frolic here last weekend Garmins outnumbered others by a large percentage, though someone commented it was because they were generally cheaper.

I have used both.

As the magellan is black I like to wear this evenings, particulary if I plan to go out. It matches the Nokia and laptop and it's light is easier on the eyes and batteries. I have a matching cord and the buttons are easier to use during those awkard moments when trying to remove bras with one hand and plot a route with the other.

As for the Garmin - I enjoy outings with the yellow when I'm with Mix. Not only does yellow suit our daytime moods and my incessant need to forget stuff when out caching but I have found it's speed and accuracy is helpful when seeking a cache site that may be up to continually 40 meters away. Price is also a factor but he says he's not cheap. Don't believe him!

As for using both - Well fortunately for us we have never been in a position where I have had to take a bra off Mix. Should I be I'll be sure to note down what GPS I have with me at the time. Hopefully for both of us (and our wives, mussn't forget the wives) it won't be any time soon.

Oh! and I use an old Garmin GPS II+ - works for me.

I'm a both, although my Garmin Legend C is getting much more use lately than the Magellan Meridian Gold.

We have the Garmin eTrex Yellow, and Garmin Foretrex 101 wrist mount.

If you want to spend the minimum amount of money then the eTrex yellow is impossible to beat.

The ForeTrex is the only option if you want the convenience of a wrist mount unit.

I found the Magellan Meridian series were:
A) Too big
B) Buttons aren't as easy to use one handed.
C) Don't have a lanyard attachment
D) Have an annoying start up "user agreement" you have accept every time you turn it on.

Other Magellan models may have fixed these issues, I don't know.

Garmin are by far the most popular brand for Geocaching.

I probably wouldn't go middle of the road, either choose a cheap non-mapping model or spend 2-3+ times the price for a good mapping model.

Remember, a $1000 GPS isn't really going to help you find caches any quicker or better, or be more accurate than a $100 basic unit.
