Did anyone else notice that over the weekend someone 'found' five APE caches, including the ones in Melbourne and Byron Bay?

Everyone plays by their own rules, but finding caches on three continents on one day seems a bit of a stretch to me...

Maybe an icon collector?

Nooo! We should rehide the Melbourne APE and claim a find

Without the APE icon there wouldn’t be much point replacing the cache. Not sure if Groundspeak would allow someone to adopt it.
However the tourism from around the world would be something to see if you could get it reinstated.
I know I would be over there as soon as I could get there.
It looks like the one in Brazil is the longest running original cache of this type and the cache listing remains unchanged. The other one in Washington is very popular and more accessible than Brazil.

Well as you can log archived caches as found, you could just replace the cache, place a note that the cache is back and send a message to a reviewer, then log a find.

Hmmm ... it doesn't even conflict with close-by caches ...

I must be feeling grumpy today, because I usually ignore this sort of idiocy, but it annoyed me so I've deleted the bogus log and locked the listing.

If they come up with some evidence of having visited the site... I'll still leave it deleted because they admit that they never found a logbook to sign!

Sanity Prevails! I don't suppose you could delete their log on the Byron Bay APE Cache too

so now we got the UMP on: What would happen if we replace the cache and it still complies with all guidelines? Could it emerge out of the archive?

I would hope not. It's gone. It's been gone for years. It should stay gone. To replace it would be not be the same cache.

Can someone explain the interest in reviving these caches?

Is it the desire to have a rather low-budget looking icon in your find list?

Wanting to be part of the special moment when Groundspeak demonstrated just what they were prepared to do for some sponsorship dollars?

Or just big fans of the mediocre 2001 movie? (Rated 5.5/10 on IMDb)

you can do a APE cache in tassie (or at least you could once) but you dont get the icon for some reason
