what is an international cache exchange?

Basically, what you do is you send a cache with items that represent your area to me....and I will send you one with items that represent my area. Then, we both place them and that's the exchange. Every now and then we both send items to restock the cache

What we can do, to save costs of shipping, is send the cache contents only. Then the other person, who receives the contents, can put them in a cache container.

I received a wonderful stash of stuff from Lady Stevenson in the post yesterday, and have sent an equally impressive (I hope) package of stuff over her way as well.

I plan to release this cache of goodies very soon after arrival in Tasmania on 14 Apr 05.

I can't wait to do an international swap....Can I do a suburb swap instead? ROFL!!

We did an international cache with Splashdog (a Spokane Washington USA team). It was great fun but unfortunately the Perth cache (Wild Wild West) has recently gone MIA. Splashdog and Team Pathfinder are in the process of setting up another to replace in a different location.

Anyway, my comment or observations which may help you decided whether or not to exchange internationally.

To set a decent cache you need to use high quality souvenirs
Postage costs are high - our cache cost us $48.oo australian to send.
This time we will reduce the cost by not sending it in its plastic container.
Ask the other team to add the log book pencils etc to further reduce weight.
Also if including cards which the US guys loved - see if you fellow cacher has a similar Publishing Program - its cheaper to email them your design and have them print it.

Naturally you will then be responsible for supply the things they are able to delete.

Another great winner that we included in the cache we sent was a CD full of photos of the Pilbara region (where we live). We sent 6 copies and they have all gone with a few cachers even contacting us to say how much they enjoyed them.

Checked it out and it looks like it's still there. One of the local guys, MedicOne ~~ one of the first finders, went back to check (he was in the area) and verified it's still there. Way cool.

I really don't think that the items have to be expensive, just something to give a "flavor" of Australia. When "Cached" and I exchanged cache contents, we decided not to send the cache container and use our own when the "goodies" arrived.

Glad to see that the cache by Team Pathfinder is back up in Spokane!!


~~oops, now that I read it, I notice you mentioned the cache in Perth. The one is Spokane had gone MIA also for a bit there but is really there. Cool.
