States of the Nation Scavenger Hunt and hides
States of the Nation Scavenger Hunt and hides
hello
Today I hid a cache (Puzzle/Mystery) and no elevation was shown on the cache page and I am wondering why please?
Have checked other similar caches and elevation is shown
Merry Christmas
Cheers

Re: States of the Nation Scavenger Hunt and hides
Any chance of checking the fault with elevation? Caches Ga11171 (above query), GA11123, GA11147, GA11071, GA7915, GA7810, GA3903, GA3459, GA4732 have all been published or moved around 20 Dec and show 0 elevation. They are trad, puzzle, moveables. If I want to claim an elevation scavenge and they are wrong I won't be able to. A couple were published or moved to help fellow cachers get a scavenge. eg find between 100 m and 200 m elevation. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Similar to the question above, just noticed the "Find and log the lowest geocache in Western Australia (GA10036)" is at 237m ... there's plenty around that are lower than that.

Re: States of the Nation Scavenger Hunt and hides
Originally was 0 in the GCA data before the game started but since corrected when somebody noticed after the game started. I don't know if the scavenge can change now that the game has started.spatialriq wrote:Similar to the question above, just noticed the "Find and log the lowest geocache in Western Australia (GA10036)" is at 237m ... there's plenty around that are lower than that.

Re: States of the Nation Scavenger Hunt and hides
I would like to know what the exact elevation is for GA11171. It is shown incorrectly as 0 m. It is probably between 200 and 300 m. Can it be corrected please so i can see if it meets a scavenge? Thanks

With our main code writer out of the country, issues such as this cannot be fixed as promptly as we're used to. Please bear with us until we can implement a solution.

When the cache was hidden, the CO's GPS indicated 155m or there aboutwhitewebbs wrote:I would like to know what the exact elevation is for GA11171. It is shown incorrectly as 0 m. It is probably between 200 and 300 m. Can it be corrected please so i can see if it meets a scavenge? Thanks
Here's hoping when GA can fix "Elevations" their height will be roughly the same
Merry Christmas and cheers

Re: States of the Nation Scavenger Hunt and hides
As a workaround try editing the cache coords then edit and set them back. That may force an update to the elevation. If the Google call fails it sets the elevation to zero. If it's a moveable try moving it and moving it back.
The Google API is not within our control so we choose zero rather than fail the cache creation or update.

Thanks for that info, handy to know. One of my caches was set as 0 elevation and i am sure it has some, so i will see if it changes. Enjoy your holiday.

Just tried that on my GA11129, took 3 tries but worked in the end.

I'm having the same issue with ga11178 yet the multi ga11181 is fine.
Tried moving it a little to no avail.

This scavenge occurs twice on the newly added cache list
Find and log a geocache with the word (or partial word) "hill" in the name

If you have two caches near you with the word "hill" in the name then you're in luck.
