Apple maps not working well in Geosphere after iOS6 download

I downloaded iOS6 on my iPhone / iPad just to find out that the new OS replaced Google maps with Apple maps in Geosphere.
The new satellite images have lower resolution and are harder to use in city as buildings' shades cover details at the street level more than Google maps did (at least in Syd CBD).

Anyone has noticed the same issue?

The entire world (well that has iOS6) has noticed this problem, yes.

It sux!
I left a post on GS forum and MarkB, the app's owner, is usually quick in responding. But I doubt he can make the next GS release working with Google maps again. It looks more like an iPxxx issue.

I got the same. I think that geosphere works on the mapping from the hardwares files so I doubt it will go back to google maps.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

I had the feeling that the Apple map upgrade would have an impact on Geosphere so was hestitant to do the update.

Lucky the geocaching website is back to Google maps so we can always look there for details.

Just one more reason not to update my iPhone 4 from iOS5 to 6.

Is this an opportunity to return to our Geocaching roots and follow the arrow to GZ rather than picking the hide from satellite imagery? \:D/

Praise be to luddism! (ok, so not really luddism 'cause we are still using those satellite thingys to make the GPSr work ](*,) )

That's generally how I find them. But if I do end up in a strange city the maps are useful to tell me which might be the best way to find a street leading there. In the old days I used to do that on the laptop before leaving home - but work these days could lead me 150km from home on a service call so caches aren't always preplanned.

But none of these maps integrate in to the system, so you can go spend $30 on some 3rd party maps and still find your caching app cannot use them or that you can open waypoints in the caching app in these external maps (some may work though... I am not an apple dev).
