I'm thinking of buying a laptop for a 4wd tour i will be doing in the future as well as geocaching and was wondering what software would be needed.

What mapping programmes do i need and the cost involved?

Would i need to buy an additional gps device or would my 60 CSx fit the bill?

Any help appreciated

Many/most GPS receivers that have a PC connection can be used over that connection with external mapping software. I'm a user of Oziexplorer, but there is certainly plenty of other software out there that fills this role too.

See this page for Australian maps compatible with Oziexplorer:

I'm certain that others will have info to pitch in here too :)

You might like to talk to the people on the GPS Australia forum. A number have carputer/laptop setups and there are a number of threads covering this area.

Cheers,
Mike.
