For the new design of he front page, I have a "What is Geocaching?" accordion (folds out when clicked).

I would a 2 paragraph summary about what geocaching is, targeted at someone who has never played before.

Please put forward your suggestions here. You should feel free to add / subtract or otherwise plagiarise others works, It saves time :-)

I can do it one short sentence:

"The game played on geocaching.com"

(Ducks and runs for cover)

an activity or pastime in which an item Is hidden at a particular location for geolocation device users to find by means of coordinates posted on the Internet.

The item may be a container which holds a log book or an interesting feature you take a photo of and then post your adventure on line.

geocaching is a world-wide scavenger hunt using GPS technology. The hobby is great for people of all ages (including little kids) and abilities (even for people with disabilities). There are caches hidden all over the world in cities and forests and everything in between.

Cachers can play the game using a smart phone or dedicated GPS device and come from all walks of life

This is the best I've got. Cow is in brackets because I have no clue what object to put in there.

A free international game like a treasure hunt using map coordinates and a GPS enabled device, where the treasure is the thrill of the hunt and sometimes finding amazing places you may never have seen if it were not for the game. Most have a container with a log book to sign at the end, which vary in size from as big as a [cow?] to as small as a fingernail, the larger ones with items and toys that can be swapped for another.

And when I explain it to people I always add, "There's even one on the international space station!" Just to make it sound less weird.

How about something like this:

Geocaching is a treasure hunt with something for everyone. Using map coordinates and a GPS enabled device, you can find a geocache near your home, in the city, in the bush or in Antarctica.
Geocaches come in all shapes and sizes too. You can find a tiny little one as small as your fingernail, or a huge geocache with exciting 'treasures' inside. It can be as easy or as hard as you like to make it. You can drive up to your geocache and spot it from the car, or you can choose to hike for miles up and down mountains in the snow in search of that elusive container.
Now get out there and have some fun! But beware, it can be addictive!

I always liked "scavenger hunt" instead of "treasure hunt" to avoid the expectation of finding something valuable but this is good.

I prefer to think I might find treasure. Who wants to find a scavenger anyway?
