New Magellan GPS Handhelds - Triton

Post by The Explorer » 11 August 07 1:26 pm

Hello - due for release in US in September and Europe in October. Release in Australia unknown. Flasher units have touch screen, MP3 player, voice recorder and camera for those who cant get enough.

http://www.directionsmag.com/press.rele ... 8505&trv=1

https://www.magellangps.com/product...t.asp?segID=425

Also coincides with release of new Magellan gps mapping software called VantagePoint

http://www.magellangps.com/products/van ... g_soon.asp

which has some handy tools for geocachers and the ability to customise maps, though exact details sketchy. Main issue (for Aus) will be qaulity of available maps, cost of maps, can you use existing magellan map products, and to what degree you can create and/or customise maps. US users will be able to use a range of National Geographic Topo Maps - similar is not available in Aus so will be interesting to see what you can and can use.

Yahoo user group now in action ...though no one has even seen one yet let alone used one...

Wonder what Garmin are up to....

Cheers
Greg

I was so disappointed with the (un)reliability of the eXplorist 600 that it has turned me off Magellan. It was a nice unit while it worked, but . . .
<p>
Maybe these new units will have a feature set like the 60Csx, but they've left it too late as far as I am concerned.

*Sigh* indeed rogainer.

Makes me feel like a Mac user must feel when these Garmin users start ranting about how superior their units are.

They do the same friggin' thing people!

Why don't you go choose one of the "my Garmin's rubber housing is falling off" or "My Garmin screen has lines across it" threads to go play in.

gosh

you really have to be careful what you say around here don't you :!:

Happy caching everyone :D

edit - Just to elaborate
My comments were not aimed at anybody and I never intended to upset anybody - If I have done this, I apologise. It genuinely distresses me to think that I may have upset people.

I agree ... it seems that some are being a bit precious in this thread

There can never be too much discussion of Garmin superiority over Magellan  :P
