Pronunciation of caching!
Hi there! We have been been relatively recently, last year, introduced and quickly addicted to this sport. We have been calling it geo cashing, as have friends. We recently went to an Event Cache and found many people pronounced it K-ay- sh or K-ay-shing.
So who says what? Does it vary from state to state?
What do you think it should be?

You're wrong! And 80% of us think so.The Silver Snitch wrote: We have been calling it geo cashing, as have friends. We recently went to an Event Cache and found many people pronounced it K-ay- sh or K-ay-shing.

Oy - anybody calling it "Cashing" here in SA is in a definite minority.Spindoc Bob wrote:Most east coasters call it Kayshing. For some reason Crow-eaters say it the same way as the Americans - Cashing.
But then you guys go 'donking' to the 'Deli' eating 'fritz' sandwiches.
Infact, I can't think of anybody that goes cashing here off the top of my head...
...and what on earth is 'donking'? Maybe I haven't been here long enough to have noticed that one.

kash is correct according to the Oxford English dictionary:
cache
/kash/
* noun 1 a hidden store of things. 2 Computing an auxiliary memory from which high-speed retrieval is possible.
* verb store in a cache.
ORIGIN French, from cacher "to hide".
It is just a bizarre coincidence that the Septics also got it right.

I say it 'kaysh' - not overly fond of the NA (septic, love that term!) pronunciation, it sounds like I am going to the bank...
One gal here (a friend unfortunately) keeps 'correcting' me - practically yelling it at me each time. I am so close to smacking some sense into her. It's a word, it's pronunciation, unless you are saying 'grewupit' instead of cache, who cares?

I have to agree. I'm a crow-eater, have been all my life, and I don't know of any SA cachers that pronounce it like the merkins do. In fact, I don't know ANY SA people, muggle or not, that pronounce the word "kash" rather than "kaysh" - ie "clear the kaysh on your computer"Cached wrote:Oy - anybody calling it "Cashing" here in SA is in a definite minority.Spindoc Bob wrote:Most east coasters call it Kayshing.
