Cache's that scare the bejesus out of you

Post by fat_chook » 11 February 07 9:17 pm

We were out caching yesterday while we were away for the weekend and while scratching around at GZ in the leaf litter I uncovered a great big carpet snake  . I held onto my pregnant belly and got outta there as fast as I could run. I usually have my 14 month old with me and he holds onto the gps. Luckily he was with my other half a few metres away laughing at me :?

So I'm wondering who else has uncovered or come across something scary or weird in their search.

I've had 3 snake encounters out caching 2 Browns and 1 Red Belly.

The first was a Brown sunning itself and I just saw it in time so I stopped and backed away.

The second was a Big Mother of a Brown and I did not see it till it "jumped" up from the grass by the track and (thankfully) went the other way from me.

The Red Belly story is here:

Large rubber snakes under caches tend to have the same effect

Don't know about you guys, but the only really scarry experience that I have done is "Nice Views... Shame about the rust!" but that was the cache itself, not the wildlife.

Thanks webguy

I have been seriously thinking of buying one of those lifelike snake garden ornaments, and putting it inside a irrigation cover beside the cache container, just to see what reaction I get. Purely for the purposes of scientific endeavour, of course.

One of my caches (now archived) had a fake snake on top of it, under a big rock. The only problem was I kept forgetting the snake was there so when ever I maintained it I would shat myself when I lifted the rock.
