Possibly the bonus of it being a desert is that a 'preparation team' can head in before the event and place caches safe in the knowledge that few attendees will have found any of them - even relative locals

If we are talking about something BIG, is 2007 too early?

i like the idea of easter, as its a 4 day long weekend, rather than a traditional 3 day one. Since people may travel from 3 or 4 states to get there, it seems sense that it would be good to be there for longer, also to allow for relaxation.

To make it even better, it will allow for more caches to be done over the duration of the weekend :D

ThatÂ’s true, Easter is traditionally when my family goes to Forster but as setsujoku points out the 4 day weekend will pull more people, hopefully more than it puts off. Also with a year to plan it people can avoid double booking the weekend.

I reckon we could run a Vic Event in September/November for the purpose of placing caches.

I've talked to Embi about it and I reckon we could get a reasonable crew together before it gets too hot.

Remembering that it's no small feat - Mildura is about 5 hours from Melbourne/Shepparton so people are looking at a fuel bill of at least $100 to even attend that plus cache costs & accommodation etc.

I would think that you'd look at caching within Mildura and maybe some of the significant areas around it like the Hattah Kulkyne.

There's no shortage of opportunity for locations.

The only other thing about Mildura at Easter is the weather (lovely) attracts people in droves to the river. Camping may have to be arranged at a private location. I and Embi have contacts up there and may be able to arrange something. You'd need area for a large camp, preferably near the river (houseboat....$$$$) and probably portaloos for conveniences.

If we are thinking international interest we'd need to be able to accommodate them somehow.

I think 14 months is long enough to organise it. Most of it will need to be done in the last few months anyway.

Sounds like a great idea - all I have to do now is work out how to get Easter off :?:
