Beta5

Post by ClydeE » 05 December 03 3:01 am

Hi All,

GSAK Beta 5 is now ready for download - fixes include:

Fixed a problem with caches that would sometimes result in the "Invalid variant type conversion error" message when loading a GPX file. NOTE: If you had this problem, You must first take the option to repair the database. This only needs to be done once.
Fixed Ozi archived colour (was incorrectly using the archived colour in the config menu)
Added the cacheL.gif file so the locationless caches correctly show in the offline HTML
Corrected typos in config and main screen
Fixed "Error loading MIDAS.DLL" problem

Download here http://gsak.geocaching.com.au

Cheers
Clyde

"Invalid variant type conversion error"

Note: I have feedback from one user that the "Repair/Defrag" was unable to fix the database in this instance (in fact the program seemed to hang)

The problem was resolved by deleting all the records in the database, then reloading the GPX file.

This problem appears to be related only to users of the "RobLisa" format.

You must have Beta5 for this to work - neither of the above methods will permanently fix the database if your version is prior to Beta 5

Hi ClydE. Thanks for the tip. I downloaded Beta 5 and it fixed the other problem I had.

It's getting hard to keep up with these updates! Really appreciate the work you are putting in to it. Great program. Keep it up. It will most likely become standard equipment for all cachers before too long.

Hi ClydE

First let me say thanks for GSAK, Its a fantastic program.

I had loaded beta 1 and 2 and noted a few small probs which I figured you would have been advised of so waited and have just loaded beat5.

It now appears that if I use Explorer directly and attempt to access the datebase vis the "open the file attachment: it throws an error message at me, a problem the first 2 betas did not do????, I might add however that although the first versions opened the offline database they would not link the hint page.

Ill send you the dump tomorrow when Im online with the laptop at work.

Cheers,

And Thanks again!...Its fantastic!!!!!!!

I found this earlier today and have sent a dump to Clyde. He is working on it - lookout for Beta 6...

Beta 6

Post by ClydeE » 07 December 03 7:50 pm

Hi all,

Beta 6 is now ready for download

The bug reports have nearly come to a stop now. This means we are close to a stable version, or nobody is using it any more! :wink:

Beta6 changes include:

Fixed error when you select to view a cache offline from OziExplorer.
Fixed error when you click on “hintsÂâ€

Enhancement Request

Post by dak's Emu Mob » 09 December 03 11:34 am

G'day Clyde,
<p>
Perhaps this feature does exist, and I just haven't tried hard enough to find it, but could we have the facility to mark a cache as found. For some reason, the GPX files generated by gc.com refuse to acknowledge that I have logged "Another Camera by the Sea", and I'd like to mark it as found. Also, when I've logged caches, I'd like to be able to mark them as found in GSAK. If the feature <b><i>does</i></b> exist, please accept my apologies for wasting bandwidth.
<p>
I'm in the process of providing some more proofreading/aesthetics feedback. Once that is complete, I'll do a proper beta test assessment of GSAK.
<p>
Cheers,
<p>

It's hidden away under tools -> configuration.
It has a side effect, it prevents the found status being updated from a GPX file so once you check it you won't get any auto updates to the found status. You can try checking it, changing the status of the cache in question, then unchecking it.

Riblits previous comments to your problem are 100% correct.

I also had a look at this cache on gecaching.com . I must admit your found log does look strange. The normal found icon is a yellow smiley, but your log shows as a camera. May have something to do with the way you made the original log. If this is the norm when you log a find and load up a picture, I would be interested to take a look at your GPX file to see if there is something in it I can pick up and use to fix this.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Clyde, gc.com have just implemented a different type of found log for web-cam caches called Webcam Photo Taken... My guess is that this is another log type that you will need to interpret the same as "Found". This log type appears in the drop down menu when you are logging a Webcam cache...

Thanks Leek, thought it might be something like that. As I havn't logged a web-cam, can someone send me a GPX file with one in it.

Alternatively, if you are familiar with looking at the raw GPX data, let me know the value of the <sym> element

Thanks
Clyde

That's a bummer. There is nothing that indicates this is a found cache. (unless there is something further on)

Normally when a cache is found the <sym> element looks like <sym>Geocache Found</sym>

This would appear something gc.com have overlooked when introducing this new found log.

You will need to update manually until gc.com fix this (noting the caveats in riblits post)

Clyde, could you do something like Watcher does and look for a 'found it' in the log entry. Ok, it's only going to catch it if the found log is in the current GPX file but at least it will catch it and should be reasonably resistant to gc.com changes.
