Extreme geocaching in Australia?

Hi, we'll be in Australia, near Melbourne, in early November, and we'd like to try "extreme" geocaching while we're there if anyone is going and we can tag along...be happy to share in the expense...doesn't have to be near Melbourne, we can go anywhere, really. Never been to Australia, everywhere's exciting to us!

How do you define extreme geocaching? If you attempt an Ideology cache, it is going to be extreme anyway........

I guess I define "extreme" as anything more than a walk in the park...how extreme does it get? I've heard helicopters and scuba? What's an Ideology cache? What's the final cut?

You could have a go at "Beyond the Cap"
Grade 4 1/2 - nobody in Victoria is leaping up to get to it.
or try "On a Clear Day" for a little bit more uphill.
Even "Lakeside" takes some getting to.
If you have access to a 4wd, then "3D" and "A Terrible View" would be entertaining, or even "Cinnabar" - if you like a little history.
If you like a LONG walk - "Corner Capers" would suit.
All are in Victoria.

Possibly the one through Claustral Canyon placed by Blocko & Badger?
Claustrophobia (GC369E) it is a 5/5.

Yep, I'd say that Claustraphobia would have to be the most "extreme" cache in NSW. Some others require days of walking, or big abseil drops, or rock climbing etc, but Claustraphobia requires abseiling waterfalls, rockclimbing, extensive swimming in 10deg water, 500m descent and ascent and a hole lot more. At least 5 people have died in Claustral canyon over the years, so it's serious business. Although to a proficient canyoner in good weather (i.e not raining), it's pretty simple.

Our new virtual cache Wild Boar would be up the list too, if you do it the hard way that is.

We have set a couple of extreme caches over here - Pilbara Western Australia. Probably a bit of a hike for you if you are heading to the east coast but here are some anyway!!

Theres not a lot to do on the weekends up here so we work on setting tough caches, ha ha.

For me, extreme is, at dusk, on a rainy day, trying to convince the team to go for that elusive 5th cache for the day with a car full of screaming tired kids and a fed up overcached wife! Alternatively, how about trying to convince the 3yo that she needs to leave the TB that has recently become 'fave toy of the week' in a cold plastic bucket in the middle of the bush! Now that's EXTREME!

Or perhaps I'm mellowing in middle age?

We're novice rockclimbers, though we could brush up before we leave so I guess Drop Dead Gorgeous is out -- perhaps a cache that requires merely a four-wheel drive and a hike and perhaps swimming would be sufficient. Tho does anyone know of any caches where one needs scuba or a helicopter to get to? I'd like to try 39 Green Ghosts -- how experienced a diver does one have to be? Is anyone planning to try that one in November?

Yep, I've had a rethink and THAT is EXTREME!!!!!! Definately think we will still with our version of the word.
