Happy B'day GCA (online event)
Hi all.
I am hosting an online event through Google Hangouts on March 28th.
https://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga14515
Any Geocaching Australia members can attend, and potential members too.
I'd like to hear your suggestions on things we can possibly discuss during the event. Every idea is welcome, but possibly not every idea will be followed. An example:
Random: "We could all do GA0337 whilst attending the event"
No Tomorrow: "That's a clever idea, but not being able to monitor who exactly is watching it would be a little inappropriate."
Please feel free to share this event on Geocaching Australia related social media things to get the word out. Ta.

Do you have a link to the hangout or name of the conversation we will be joining?

We will be on the road somewhere but will have phone signal so lap top will work. Looking forward to it. Many thanks for having the idea. Never heard of Hangouts so will be interesting.

Re: Happy B'day GCA (online event)
If I was just broadcasting like a podcast on YouTube and no one could join in, I'd have a link, etc. But this is for all to join in. Therefore I will need to invite you all into the conversation. I also tested Hangouts using a link to invite someone in using their phone app but it kept sending them to the app store where they'd already downloaded the app from.stainless-steel-rat wrote: ↑15 March 20 11:37 pmDo you have a link to the hangout or name of the conversation we will be joining?
So gathering the email addresses used to log into Hangouts seems to be my only option at this point. However I'll keep researching about the link over the next week.

Re: Happy B'day GCA (online event)
I just tested hangouts Google on my lap top and glad I did as I would have sent you my normal email address and when on the hangouts site I had to use my geocaching google account email. Glad I did before I gave it to you. Do not mind sharing it here. youngoldfella@gmail.com.

If you start a conversation in hangout you get an option to share the link
Maybe test this out before the event?

That is exactly what I have tested twice, sending from my laptop to mobile phones. It failed both times.stainless-steel-rat wrote: ↑16 March 20 11:07 amIf you start a conversation in hangout you get an option to share the link

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by dead. I can still go ahead with the hangout if I invite each individual in. I've used Hangouts plenty before using emails. Works well enough. But I'm definitely open for other options. I'll have a look at Webex.

Does anyone use Zoom video conferencing? I think it will work much better than hangouts but will be limited to 40 minutes. I just need to test it first.

I have just finished reading up on hangouts and ready for it and I have never heard of or used Zoom conferencing.

Re: Happy B'day GCA (online event)
Well I have done some research and found nothing. How do I use it. Can I use it from my desk top or Lap top or do I have to use my smart phone?
I have no microphone on my desktop. Not sure about my Laptop. Hopeless with smart phone technology.

Well hold everything. This oldfella just managed to join Zoom through the APP store and connected to zoom and I was told when the meeting would commence 1800 on 28th March. Also it informed me that the host was currently in a zoom meeting.
