Broken USB Cover rubber plug on Oregon 650

Post by gmj3191 » 11 March 14 1:59 pm

The little plug has finally broken at the thin attachment and is now not tethered to my GPS.
Garmin Support say they will replace my unit with a new one, but I have to get the retailer to send it to their Eastern Creek office.
Has anybody had any experience with this? The support guy said two weeks, but when my 550 battery charger was sent away it took about 7 or 8 months, but that wasn't a real issue as I had another charger.

At least I have got my old 550 working as a back up.

Well the retailer said it would take 2 to 3 months.
He suggested it would be better for me to organise it with Garmin myself.
I went back to the Garmin hotline and booked it in. He had no idea why the retailer said 2 or 3 months, and again said 2 or 3 weeks.
He sent me an email with an RMA number and I sent my GPS off on 12th March.

I rang back the retailer, and he said yes, Garmin are probably right, and the delay is because the retailer holds onto them until they have a batch, and then sends them off to Garmin.
I couldn't believe he said this to me with a straight face. Last time I'll buy anything from that particular retailer, and I paid a bit more to support a local business too.

Aust Post tracking tells me it was delivered to Garmin in Sydney the next day.
I'll report progress.

The sequence of events in dealing with Garmin was :
11/3/2014 Rang Support Line, they emailed an RMA#
12/3/2014 Posted off to Seven Hills
13/4/2014 Aust Post tracking advised delivered to the Garmin Seven Hills PO Box
14 Fri, 15 Sat, 16 Sun
17/3/2014 Requested Proof of Purchase, supplied PDF by return email
17/3/2014 Replied that they had attached Proof of Purchase and were proceeding
17/3/2014 Replied that it was with Service Dept, waiting for a tecnician
20/3/2014 Acknowledged fault and advised a replacement unit would be dispatched shortly
20/3/2014 Advised it had been sent by Startrack and they supplied a tracking number
21/3/2014 Delivered to me by Startrack

After all the stuff I've heard about Garmin service, I am very surprised and very pleased by this outstanding service.
The replacement unit is probably not new, but as good as.
