Garmin Screen Repair

Post by jusojara » 20 July 13 3:06 pm

Hi All,

Has anyone had an experience getting a screen fixed on a Garmin touchscreen GPS, namely a Montana? My screen has cracked and apparently Garmin don't usually repair them but replace the unit and then use the old one for parts. Does anyone know roughly how much of new price they charge for this and also if they will re-install factory uploaded topo maps?

$250.
Same thing happened to mine about 3 weeks ago after I dropped it.
Contact garmin and they will work you through the process.

Thanks Freddo,

We just called them and they have sent us the e-mail to send it in. Did you have the topo maps on yours and did the new one come with them?

I sent them a Montana 650t and I got a Montana 650t back. The maps are part of the package with this unit.

I killed my Montana as well - send in a 600 got back a 650t

Make sure to keep the battery so you end up with two and not one old one.

Also check out this case: I got it and I hope it prevents it from cracking again:

Thanks for the advice on the battery.

I actually have one of those cases but it wasn't on the unit and would not have helped anyway, it was knocked off a desk (by one very remorseful Geo-Daughter) and hit the corner of a shredder screen down
