I am look for some Gecachers from New Zeeland.
I found a COIN and this must travel to new Zeeland
"Janneke was my colleague at the Alexander Roozendaalschool in Amsterdam. Janneke is moved to New Zealand. She is an avid cacher." its from date Wednesday, 13 October 2010 And 2011 October found it in The netherlands.

Why is it that NZ caches have the area in brackets after the cache name?
eg.
Cavers Delight (Fiordland)
Stumped (Southland)
Rigney (Central Otago)

Do the gc.com reviewers add this?
If so, why in New Zealand and not in, Australia for instance?

In the early days GC.com only had one state (NZ) for all New Zealand caches. My understanding is that this was done to allow people to easily look at the list of new caches in the search screen and allow them to spot caches nearby.

I think the reviewers were adding them initially but can not comment for now.

Yes I found that uniformity odd too! New players probably see it on all the caches and think it is the thing to do so all caches end up with it. I like it :)

Worked really well for us when visiting for the MEGA recently. but there was a thread elsewhere about it. Saw it before we travelled.

They appear to be Regional Councils. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southland_Region as an example. There are only 15 regions in NZ. As far as I can tell there are no regional councils in Australia. There are only local government areas (formally). There are around 600 LGA's in Australia. I'd guess that assigning an LGA to each cache in Australia would be too onerous on the reviewers. It also appears that the regions in NZ are very stable in terms of boundaries. LGA's in Australia change. Not frequently, but frequently enough to be a pain in the ass.

I think it was just a done thing in the early days that has propagated. AFAIK the reviewers weren't adding it as I have found one or two that didn't have it.

Personally on my few trips to NZ I didn't find it that useful, but that may be because I had no idea where the boundaries were. Also an "area" can cover quite a distance even in NZ so as a filtering tool I don't think it would be that helpful.

I would rather just load into GSAK on the laptop or Geosphere on the iPhone and look for what is in range, the location name is irrelevant.

There are also areas in Australia that are not part of an LGA.
Head out towards areas outside Broken Hill, they are part of an "Unincorporated Area" and services looked after by a different State Government department whose name I can't remember now.

Also, if we did add part of the LGA name to a cache having "My Cache (Richmond)" could confuse people when Richmond is an outer suburb of Sydney (and part of Hawkesbury Council) while Richmond River Shire Council is based around Casino in the north of the state. Only about 8 hours drive away.

It would also help to differentiate caches like .... A Walk in The Park we have 7 of those in AU.
Bridge over Troubled Water(s) 6 of those

etc
