GeosportZ 2012 - Questions and Clarifications
Re: GeosportZ 2012 - Questions and Clarifications
Let me add another voice of thanks, particularly to caughtatwork for the amazing job coordinating the game. Simply brilliant!
I really enjoyed the opportunity to cache in a different way, strategically planning my finds for two months rather than just chasing the smileys.
Congratulations to those who won a prize... but I feel like we are all winners, particularly those who got to 350 points. Cheers!

Drat! Missed by just 1 place @ #16 - ah well, it was great fun travelling some ridiculous distances away to get just one cache. And travelling to some out of the way places to find some really big ones (~25L) that would well please the micro-haters. What seemed a easy task at first glance soon turned tricky and required careful planning to maximise your final result. I've not played the caching game in that way before, so it was an interesting spin on things.
Thanks to caughtatwork at everyone who played a part in the game I'm looking forward to the next CachingGames race.

Thanks for the huge amount of time you put into this caughtatwork, it was great fun to play. I'm stunned I ended up in a prize winning position, since I put very little planning into my playing, and just took part for the fun of it.

Very good. lol on the 4th one.Team Wibble wrote:A few memorable moments from our experience:
[*] Making Mr Wibble swim in Westlakes on a frosty morning (5 degrees at the time), and nearly getting run over by some rowers who seemed to come out of nowhere
[*]Being seen unloading a kayak from the car on the side of Main North Road, which must have looked odd to all the non cachers driving along there who have no idea there's a beautiful billabong hidden behind the trees right on the side of one of Adelaide's major roads.
[*]Going for a wander in a little known conservation park to find a coffee machine in the middle of the bush
[*]Standing at a busy intersection at night, wearing fluoro vests as cover, to extract a cache and then trying to convince Mr Wibble that the whole subterfuge is not going to work so well if he insists on holding hands as we walk back to the car
[*]Realising that the cache we were going to end up logging for the marathon was one called "Let's hang around public toilets" which kind of sums up how dodgy you can feel while caching sometimes
My memorable moment was arriving at the Canberra Yacht Club, and, as yachties began to arrive for a regatta, setting up my ladder on front of the race control tower, climbing up, holding my GPS above my head and then phoning home to get someone to snap the webcam picture! Didnt feel conspicuous at all!

to c@w. I love games
I am now thinking it might be a good idea to hide a few very large caches in the next 4 years, and ensure some of the common olympic words are prominent in any new cache's name. eg the "Blue Ring Tennis Beam" might be useful. Make sure there is a horse and bicycle icon on the cache page, put it at a sports ground that has a lake on one side and ocean on the other side, make it a multi with lots of waypoints and ensure the walk to complete the cache is at least 1.5km!

Re: GeosportZ 2012 - Questions and Clarifications
Well that was fun! I was just a little too good though at 14th place...
I reckon this game is much more fun than the moving cache races since it doesn't matter if there is no one else nearby who does GCA caches. Do we really have to wait 4 years for the next one???
Thanks c@w and everyone else who made the game what it was!
Now can anyone hide a cache that would fit all of the requirements?

Sorry LL didn't have a water craft, tried to drag a fellow cacher out with a boat but couldn't find a suitable time
Oh well look forward to Rio in 4 years.
Thanks c@w for the work you put into a great event.

Hey, do I get a prize for getting the wooden spoon??? If coming second is the first of the losers, ain't I the last of the winners then.
