Geocaching Shops in Sydney?

Post by Amadeus » 06 July 12 3:19 pm

Hi, besides online stores, is there any dedicated shop in Sydney that has a wide array of products you can look at in a store?

No ,Sydney doesn't or any othe capital in OZ.
All the popular stockists are based from their homes in Adelaide,Brisbane,Melbourne( 2 ),Canberra ,Bendigo and Albury.
They are not shops but home based online stockists as such.

Australia does not have the huge numbers of geocachers that Europe and the USA have.
It would be 20 years yet, before a retail shop opened ,that could cover all the operating costs.

All the online stores have a good product range, friendly prices and a nippy postal service anywhere in OZ, including the one right here at GCA.
Good luck with what you need.

And checking for feedback in this Forum can be the best way to find out which online sellers are recommended.

I've bought a lot of my geocaching supplies via eBay. But of course it would be better to buy locally if the price is comparable.

Good luck!

What types of products were you thinking of? The geocaching stores usually sell "stuff" that you can get from stores.
For me my local store is Woolies... Can buy sistemas, key holders, pens and pencils, laminator pouches and occasionally bison tubes...
For others the 2 dollar/ bargain store has good, cheap swag.
And... Johnny Appleseeds and Dick Smith sell GPS Units
Only things you can't buy in a store in Sydney (probably) are Travel Bugs and Geocoins.
Depending on where in Sydney you are from there should be some of those stores near you.

I can only recommend these guys in Sydney for the only cache container anyone should buy - ammo cans!
http://www.militaryandcamping.com.au

I ordered my ammo cans on Thursday afternoon and they arrived Friday morning! Only $7.95 each plus about $8 to ship three!

Having struggled recently to maintain the smaller caches I just look at my ammo can hides and realise I probably don't have to do anything for them for the next five years...

I was really excited by this, but the postage to Perth for 1 is $25 and for 2 is $33 so we will continue to pay $15 each for them locally :?

Sounds great- although if I were to order through them I have a friend in Smithfield who can pick it up.
The Dee Why Surplus Store is closing down so you might find discounted tins there, can't comment only because haven't been in- just driven past
I have been inside Mitchell's outdoors, only a short walk from Wynyard station to buy some "military stuff". Whilst there I found the ammo tin section and although quite small a standard tin was $8-9 depending on state it was in (the online prices are a bit different) http://www.mitchellsadventure.com.au/
*EDIT*
Here is the ammo tin pricing and looks like they've dropped it to $7.95 so they're the same as Yurt's
Their 50 caliber are $16.95 which is cheaper than Peters which is $18.95
Will check on shipping
*EDIT*
Shipping is more but I think you could pick up

There's some major shops with geocaching supplies in nearly every city/town, try these,

www.woolworths.com.au

www.coles.com.au

They have all sorts of containers in different sizes and some even come with food in them
