Personally, I can't see the point in making a cache sooooo hard to find, that even cachers can't find it.
To me, camo is to beat muggles, and if it's really good, a hint should be supplied for cachers.
Who wants to hide a cache that no-one can find? You can't appreciate it if you can't find it.

I agree. Especially in little country towns where the only finders are cachers who are passing through.

Certainly not, but it's good to have the odd one like this to give the self flagellation crew an outlet.

Given that it's my thread, I might take it down this off-topic line.

If you look at the logs for that (unfound) Perth cache, there are mentions of cachers undoing nuts and bolts, and then others berating people for doing it, and then the cache owner obviously changed the description to say don't do it.

The problem with that is that there ARE caches which involve pulling stuff apart - fake sprinklers, fake fence post caps, etc.

There's one object (no spoilers) I found which I felt really uncomfortable opening up because if it HADN'T been a cache, it would have been vandalism - luckily it was.

There's another which (I gather from the logs but not the cache description) requires tools and some force.

So how far do you go with unscrewing/pulling at/dismantling stuff that may or may not be a cache hide?

well I should probably own up to a dnf on a Tassie cache that everyone finds easily.
we have tried 3 times to find Gravel Park and can't, and twice there was a group of about 8 of us looking

woohoo - my 'boy look' nemesis cache (GRAVEL PARK) has turned into a found. I wonder if it was because I left most the boys behind and only had the young one 'helping' me?

I finally found the nemesis cache that I mentioned earlier in the thread, and interestingly, the problem was that I had been thinking too much about what a good or tricky hiding place would be, and narrowing my search down to those.

Some good tips here - the keys are observation, perseverance, and training yourself to think outside the square. Also of assistance, read the cache description (been there, done that! ), the hint, and logs if you're getting stuck. Try approaching GZ from different directions. Keep and open mind - the most obvious hide isn't always the right one. Don't trust your GPS 100% - plenty of time bad reception, cumulative errors/inaccuracies can put you well off target. Experience and practice - but even then there are some caches that just never work for you - I've a few nemeses that no matter how I tried I couldn't find them while others post those annoying Easy Find logs same day (luckily at least one have been archived! ) If you're really stuck - contact the cache owner or even other cachers who've found it - sometimes they can give a crucial clue to get you on track. But stick it out - there's a good feeling you get after cracking those troublesome caches
