Re: Oh, I want this implemented on all cache listing sites NOW!
Hehehe
I want this too!
Unfortunatley if grammar and spelling were part of the guidelines there would be no caches in my immediate surroundings, and that would make me sad.
I'll put up with the lack of punctuation and poor grammar to grab me a few smilies.
Side note: saw someone write the'ir the other day (they meant it in the 'there' context btw).
I thought was double epic.
Mind you, anyone who has been in chat with me knows my on the fly grammar and spelling is terrible, so this isn't a shot at anyone, we all have different abilities.

Yes, it never ceases to amaze me how many people stuff this up, to the extent that I think the language is evolving and losing the word lose, replacing it with loose.grahamf72 wrote:Here Here!!!

This loose interpretation of explaining how we lose things or how tight objects can become loose with wear really annoys me.

How about:
Whether the Wether should be left out in the weather.
Work that one out.

Stop and ask yourself how this person is in a position that they cannot spell well.
Please stop picking on people that might not be in that position by choice.

Re: Oh, I want this implemented on all cache listing sites NOW!
For logs and other on-the-fly writing, I can see that a dyslexic or just under-educated person might be cut some slack on their spelling.
But a cache listing is something on which some care can and should be taken.
If they know their spelling and grammar are lacking, possibly for reasons out of their control, then they should get a literate friend to proof-read it for them and make corrections.
Otherwise, they're just being arrogant about their disability and requiring everyone else to compensate for them.
Written communication is a skill and can, in almost all cases, be learned. Refusing to do so, and still perpetrating linguistic car wrecks on the rest of us, means accepting that they're prepared to be judged by their works.

Yes, covert, I am a person that has trouble with spelling and grammar, I'm dyslexic. However there is a simple way to overcome this problem, it's called spell check (available in Word, Excel, and GSAK ). As an added bonus spell check will also offer advice on grammar. There are also plenty of dictionaries and thesauruses available on-line.covert wrote:Stop and ask yourself how this person is in a position that they cannot spell well.

IMHO there is no excuse for poor spelling, or grammar, in today's electronic world.
I do crossword puzzles in the newspapers as a method to improve my spelling, and they have the added benefit of increasing word power.
Excellent point PBL. As a topic for another thread: it would be nice if some CO's had their cache placements, multi's and puzzles beta tested before they were published.Papa Bear_Left wrote:If they know their spelling and grammar are lacking, possibly for reasons out of their control, then they should get a literate friend to proof-read it for them and make corrections.
Back to the original post: bring it on!!! It can't come soon enough.

I thought this was started in a light hearted vein, but it got a bit serious.
I see no harm in letting people know if they have grammatical errors, or spelling errors, in their listings.
I hope people let me know if I have mistakes in my listings, in fact Lemmykc let me know about one just last night.

I am in the camp that says it is OK to point out obvious errors, as long as it is done privately and tactfully. I am always happy when someone points out one of mine this way, and have done so for others.
There are of course those for whom a good command of the language is difficult for various reasons, but that is where word-spell should be a decided help.
Mind you, I haven't known any miss-spellings or bad grammar stop me from finding a cache.

I do my absolute best to check my grammar before submitting my caches.
I must try harder.
I must try harder.
I must give up watch DOOL and start watch English for beginners on SBS

The one that gets my goat is when people can't determine the difference between caches and cachers.
