For all your general chit chat, caching or not.

So what have you done in the last month?

Post by Happy Chappies » 29 April 11 1:16 pm

One of the things that I love most about geocaching isn't just the geocaching...

I always find it tremendously satisfying to pull up this screen whenever I'm feeling a bit down: http://www.geocaching.com/my/ - Not so much because of some ridiculous number of finds - But more because everytime I do it and look down the list I find myself thinking "Geez, we've done a lot of fun things this last month! So much so that it seems like way more than a month since I did that thing at the bottom of the list!" - which is terribly heartening in the middle of a humdrum work day or in that gut-wrenching, age-fearing sweat that comes with the approach to middle age

Even just checking it today, the cache finds it shows me reminds me of:

- Coffee and cake in Kew with the wife and kids followed by a great walk around the river area where the kids hid in the long grass and we stumbled upon some la-de-da function.
- A trip to the Werribee Zoo, followed by a camping trip to Barwon Heads for a night where we ate fish and chips, played on the beach, and enjoyed a lovely cafe breakfast followed by a slow meandering trip home.
- Solving impossible puzzles, and bumping into a few cachers in unexpected locations.
- Nicking off work early one day to explore a part of Melbourne I'd never spent much time in before
- Bushwalking in the pouring rain with beta female...
- Getting a parcel from a German geocacher friend filled with all sorts of TBs and geocoins
- Breakfast in the Yarra Valley with friends from o/s followed by a trip to Healesville Sanctuary.
- Two family birthday parties in a local park.
- Our first proper night-cache and meeting a whole heap of cachers I'd never met before.
- An Easter night-caching expedition with another cacher through the City and Docklands.
- Catching up with a friend in another park where the kids ran wild and came home exhausted.

Simple things no doubt... But without this little reminder they'd be easy to forget - and then leaving me with that sense of 'what have I done with my time?' - I guess in that way it kind of functions like how one might use a diary or journal (except I'm much more likely to look back on this than a journal!)...

So, after that long speel.... what does your profile page say about your last month?

I've always found Production females very tricky to operate with. Did the beta model have many unexpected bugs?

Personally I prefer this page

http://geocaching.com.au/logs/cacher/richary

but then a lot of my logs the last few months have included GCA caches.

My logs show

Exploring Rookwood Cemetery in the middle of an art exhibition
A caching long weekend up at Port Stephens with some great views
A work trip to our nuclear reactor
An interesting mural near Redfern
Exploring some nice bush near home (for my first whereigo cache)
Finding a cache near the runway at Sydney airport and watching a few planes
A trip to Rouse Hill and bumping into another cacher radomnly (we then found a few together)
A family brunch to celebrate my birthday and my girlfriend's sister's engagement
Knocking off a new puzzle cache close to home and getting FTF
Today's ferry ride out to Cockatoo Island

My profile really shows how busy i've been in the last month, i've barely been geocaching!

I went on a FTF hunt, where i was the first to..DNF.
That evening, at the caching awards dinner, i was asked about my DNF. Lol..
I still have a TB from that dinner, eek
I tried to get a few more Canberra-To-Cooma caches out of the way.
I went to uni, and found a cache whilst i was waiting for the bus home. Score.
I figured out that jumping over barbed wire fences is not a good idea..ever. And i didnt even get a smiley out of it.
I finally found my closest-to-home-traditional cache...that's been harrassing me since august last year.
But the geocaching achievement i'm mostly proud of?
I went camping in belanglo state forrest with scouts, and didnt die. \:D/ (also find it amusing that there's a cache at two of the base camps that we had for the weekend. Convedient)
(my first multi! Ahh!)

Wow! Where to begin!

In the past month I have:

Met a man with a TB Tattoo at my first UK Event
Explored the Isle of Anglesea, North Wales
Hiked the Mountains of Wicklow, Irelands "Garden" County including the World Heritage listed "Glendalough" region.
Walked the Streets of Dublin many times... including a 23 WAY POINT PUB CRAWL Multi Cache
Solved some great puzzles.
Made many new friends through the Geocaching.ie forums and Events
Begun some ultra difficult Irish "Challenge" Caches... which if I complete will the be the first Non-Irishman to do in some cases.
And now this week finds me in the sun in Portugal with my first non-English and continental Europe finds under my belt.

Life's tough ;)

I'm guessing these didn't involve too many puzzles, especially the later stages

Luckily most of the clues were "What's the street number" or something equally fool/drunk proof :D

(And I may have cheated and done it on a Tuesday morning rather sober... :-$ hehe)

My last month was pretty good....right up to the bit where my wife broke her patella which sort of curtailed my activities. But before that, on a few separate solo trips, I did Nowra, Tathra, Cooma, Eden, Lakes Entrance, Phillip Is, Cowra and Bathurst .

My record best day (62), passing 800 with the 5th find of the day, being in a cache rich country for once... but then back to SE Europe...sigh...
