Now that the Oz Mega is announced On Easter 2012 maybe bring it forward to October 2011 and then potentially we could be in the situation of a Mega Event every 2 years in each country so NZ in 2011 Then OZ 2012 then perhaps back to NZ in 2013 and so on. I think this would help get the Australians over to it as there wouldn't be 2 big Caching trips in 1 year.

I would be alot more interested in the October rather than the Easter option. Easters are extremely hard for me to get off as a baker. But would love for a excuse to go back to NZ especially just for Caching.

Anyway just a few ideas will look into it no matter when ever it is.

Either year would work for me as I'm likely to be there for the World Cup and could drop in on the way back from Fiji in 2012. But as Ghostgums points out, airfares will be costly in 2011.

:D Count us in for 2 adults... we have been trying to plan a trip to NZ for some years now and this will give us the perfect excuse to get the planning underway

There will be a lot of international visitors in NZ in October 2011. Consider a "World Cup" of geocaching.

The Rats would love to travel across the ditch especially if caching is involved. Add a mega event and we'll be there.

Like everything it comes to timing, with the OZ II just announced for 2012, and as we plan to take in the states and do the Mid West GeoBash in OHIO in 2011, it is out for us, but later in 2012 would be a go, 2013 for us is to England for the Great Dorset Steam Fair 45th rally... oh such little time and cash... sigh... but hopefully with timing we could make it, just think of all the rental cars that would be needed :) or is it Kiwi adopt an Aussie? any way will keep an eye on this. Cheers

Given the new information 'OZ Mega 2012' I'd suggest the NZ committee go away and think about some dates. :-k

Given the previous mention that the event would rely heavily on OZ numbers making the journey you don't want it to clash or be too close to the 2012 Mega. I'd be cautious about peoples budgets and holiday leave being able to accommodate two close together. I'm sure given enough time to plan/save many of us would love to attend both. Hence if people had to chose one or the other it would be interesting to see how numbers for either would fair.

I'd also think it'd be fair to assume the numbers of people who have posted prior to the surprise announcement of the 'OZ MEGA 2012' be disregarded and the question be asked again, once more certainty around the date be reached.

Don't give up, good luck! =D>

I agree with Cached.

There is a lot of talk from alot of teams that won't be going to the OZ MEGA EVENT for many reasons.

We won't be going as the idea of driving all that way to camp 1 night, then break camp and drive a couple of hundred km's and then make camp again, with young children in tow just is not going to work for us.

And NO mention of caching...which is what a mega event is about. And the area does not have a lot of caches either.

So, we are going to keep an eye on THIS thread to see where it goes. Would love to take the kids to a place that is new and we have not been to before, unlike the OZ Mega.

We also would rather attend the NZ Mega Event, preferably in 2012 because after all, their intention to hold an event was announced first!
