An area that can handle an influx of large numbers of people fairly easily - particularly campers - maybe a place where a great race is held? A unique inhabitant - perhaps a little penguin, unique to Australia. A location >100km from any current guesses, perhaps Phillip Island, Victoria? And yes, fallow deer were introduced to the area by the early settlers. Kangaroos, Wallabies, Koalas are all there too. That will be my last guess until tonight!

the farmers 5 wrote:Some pretty good suggestions in the there including the Great Ocean Road, Grampians, and even the Dubbo Zoo.

But, not one of all the long list of suggestions is still close .There is no scout camp involved. :D This is no zoo involved. :D
But one last clue for all the people still guessing.
This unique location has deer grazing on the campground, but there is also another animal that is unique to the region that grazes on the same campground and the picture of this is in the release tomorrow night. There are kangaroo's about too. ( no, its not cows or sheep..its unique ) :D :D

Emu ??? - could do some star gazing as well from the hills above???

mm, Philip Island does sound a good possibility. What sort of camp grounds are there? And more to the point, are there lots of caches there? :D

And if it is Philip Island, what dates would be free?

"but there is also another animal that is unique to the region"

The only Australian animals that I can think of that are unique to a region are Quokkas, Tassie Devils & tree kangaroos, none of which live naturally in the states & territory mentioned. Australia is full of feral animals that range across the continent.

Ostriches roam free in South Australia only so my final guess is: The Coorong.

I would have thought Fairy Penguins would count as pretty unique.

Although Rottnest Island might be a good location

Sorry, but Fairy Penguins are pretty common on the southern coasts. We have plenty here is Sth Oz

PS: I don't think I have ever seen a Fairy Penguin "grazing"
