The New GCA Cache Icons Poll!
A week or two ago you may have noticed a small change in the cache icons both on the GCA Website, and on your KML Google Earth Exports. So far, it seems they have been quietly accepted as no one has gotten back to me complaining
Here is a summary of the changes...
This is your last chance to comment on and vote on the changes for YOUR website. Pending these being accepted I will begin work on the slightly prettier versions for them for the new map pins for the Google Map display, and ultimately prettier versions of those to possibly turn into Path Tags for the shiny metal junkies
So please cast your votes below and/or provide some feedback. Cheers!

I just thought it was strange that my NZ finds has an outline of Australia!

My Apologies to our Kiwi Members! But only the "West Island" was big enough to fit on the icon

The only whinge you might hear is that they seem a little small but if the name shows up then that's okay.
One thing that's probably too much trouble is a way to differentiate GCA from GC caches - trads, multis and mysteries.
That's about all I could come up with, apart from that all pretty good. Thanks for the efforts.

I'm a voice for the old ones - I think they are clearer and easier to distinguish.
Sorry - appreciate your efforts, but I liked the old ones better.

Re: The New GCA Cache Icons Poll!
Are these icons new icons just for GCA, or will the GC ones also change to the new ones?
Be nice to be able to differentiate between them on a map

Me three. To me unless it is a major change why change it?Cached wrote:I'm a voice for the old ones - I think they are clearer and easier to distinguish.

Re: The New GCA Cache Icons Poll!
What's with the new island shown in the Multi icon?
I feel that the newer icons are trying to push too much detail into such a small icon, keeping it simple works for me. A partial change is my choice with icons such as the letterbox and beacon being a possible change.
Thanks for asking.

Re: The New GCA Cache Icons Poll!
Thanks for everyone's feedback. The icons were done at the suggestion of a few people who thought the old ones were a bit drab... and actually were a step back from a request to update the very plain Google Maps Pins. See THIS THREAD for the evolution
As most of you have correctly ascertained however, with so few pixels to play with (and without ripping off the GC Icons ), it is difficult to make sweeping changes and maintain clarity and familiarity ... hence this trial, and the relatively simple changes.
It seems most people are worried about the Aussie Map ones. The vote is pretty close so we'll let it run a few days and see what happens.
By all means (as I am certainly no graphic designer ) anyone else who can think of a good idea feel free to have a go!

PS - Not sure about differentiating the GC from the GCA... CraigRat or C@W would have to say if it is even possible???

Not by way of the icon.
We use the GCA logo to differentiate.

Re: The New GCA Cache Icons Poll!
Voting for the old ones. First, they're clearer. Second, some of the geocaches aren't in Australia (only a few, but it's more than none).
BTW - Your use of emoticons in the poll is known as push-polling.
