Geocache Navigator gone...now what?
Geocache Navigator gone...now what?
Hey guys. I used to love using Trimble's Geocache Navigator application on my Nokia to find caches on a casual bases. It was really useful because I could just load it up and boom, any caches near me would show up. Now the software costs an obscene amount of money and i'm looking for something else to use.
Does anyone else know of a phone application (or applications that will help with):
General GPS navigation (ie compass style pointing in direction of coordinates)
Finding nearby caches.

It's not free anymore?
What are the changes to tempt us to spend money on it?

I find the builtin navigation stuff on my Nokia N95 (and also on my wifes N81) works good enough. Gets us close to GZ, then it's up to our eyes.
However, if you've got a pro account on GC (or only search for GCA caches) SmartGPX is a nifty program for paperless caching, and can be used to show caches that are close to you. Doesn't download stuff live off the net, but works with pre downloaded GPX files.

Re: Geocache Navigator gone...now what?
Has your Geocache Navigator stopped working altogether? My (free) version still works as normal if I enter the coordinates manually, I just can't access the "Live" data. I'm using GN in manual mode in combination with SmartGPX.
I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable amount for Geocache Navigator, say up to $10, but the price they're asking for is ridiculous.
I'm considering replacing my 6110 with an Android phone soon. The Geocaching apps available on Android seem to be miles ahead of GN, and either free or much more reasonably priced

I just started using Geocaching live, which is free if you are a premium member of GC.com. it seems to be quite hidden away, which is unusual because it is really really good. If you are interested I can post the Google satellite mapset link which I use. Very very handy. You can also choose to either download live caches or import a pocket query.

Yeah thanks Jezz, i'm really liking the potential for this application. I think it's hidden coz it's a beta. I'm sure they will adaquetly flog it once the full version is released.

Mine is working too, but I have to say that the geocaching live app has a lot of potential.

Re: Geocache Navigator gone...now what?
With regards to the google maps:
In the setting press whatever your options key is and choose add new mapserver (call it Google satellite or something), Then enter the following: (painstakingly, I know)
http://khm1.google.com/kh/v=39&hl=en&x= ... Y]&z=[INVZ]
Choose WGS84/Spherical and assuming no one has typed anything incorrectly you should get google maps satellite photos! Sometimes it only seems to work at a zoom level of less than 5km, not quite sure why.
