New New Zealand record for most caches in a day*

Post by backPAQer » 07 October 09 11:59 am

(* day being a contiguous 24 hour period).

Glyn (The Only One) - also known as Glyn TOO or G-2
KiwiGary
and myself (BackPAQer) keen to regain the title after holding it briefly at 43 caches in a day 2 years ago.

headed out at 7:30am on October 3rd in weather that ranged from "windy" to "wet and windy" and included a patch of sun for about 20 minutes at one point and bagged ourselves 77 caches, topping the previous record of 75 with 4.5 hours to spare. The fact that G-2 and KiwiGary are locals and have hit a very large number of the caches already, the challenge was on to have all 3 of us hitting caches none of us had done before so we could hold the record as a team.

Big thanks to G-2 for the driving/local knowledge/navigation and to KiwiGary for the superb preparation of the "Battle Sheet" and let it be said that "Gary has great buns" (massive food planning went into the effort to ensure we didn't need to stop anywhere for extra food/drink).

Mission Accomplished! :D

OMG! That's an epic effort! Well done.

Now all you got to do is sit down and log them all... lol.

Gary and Glyn have already logged theirs with the aid of a script - I might use the boulter logger to do my logs...but I might string the whole epic saga as a story across all the caches...so if anyone is interested, if they read my logs in order across all 87 caches (including the 10 DNF's) it should provide some fun reading.

I can't seen to manage more than about 45. I did break the NZ record once a few years ago, but never held it. I knew I'd broken it and was very pleased with myself, but the same day somebody else broke it with one more than me! Congratulations.

Congrats!
Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame! :D
While you still can....... :o

I'm not gonna do that cause I don't come from NZ but someone out there will break the record.
I know. <- that's not me! I think....

Resist the urge! I cringe every time I read a generated log, it says more about the people writing it than it does about the cache. Please take the time to write the logs properly, even if it takes a month!

Congrats guys.

Out of interest, does anyone know what the current Australian record is?

http://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Caching_record

I ended up using something similar to the Boulter Logger...something I wrote in Excel...was very quick...and personalised :)
It also provides a sort of trail that people can follow from cache to cache in the order we did them.

wow well done backPAQer , you must have been so well organised , did you hit mainly single caches and avoid the multis ? We recently did 17 in one day which we thought was pretty amazing :D they were fairly close together in Hervey bay before that we have only ever managed about 8. Got any tips, we have 2 geo-kids in toe which can sometimes slow us down sometimes not.

Well done on your effort. Your justification of a day just gave me an idea. Why not do it on the night daylight savings ends. We will then have 25 hours to have a go at any such feat.

The night you get the extra 1 hour back is at 3 am Easter Sunday 4th April at the Oz Mega Wagga Wagga. Roger is coming .So knowing Roger well,if he is to break another record a few hours after the Easter Saturday Night planned for the" Oz Mega Wagga Wagga" and then go for 25 hours straight.....good luck and all the best. =D> =D> The bike riding fitness might help but can you get past the "no sleep" factor to beat any records.!!

Congratulations on the New Zealand record and mighty feat . =D> =D>

PS/ Now ,which team is it you support at the Bledisloe Cup again.
