Server cutover scheduled for evening of Monday 13-July-2009

Post by caughtatwork » 09 July 09 11:42 am

We cutover on Monday 13-July-2009.
We expect to start early evening subject to local conditions.
We expect the cutover will take between 4-6 hours*.
We will update the GCA website to indicate it is no longer in operation to avoid data coming into the system after we take the data cut. This means your access to the site and the forums will be cut off.
We will ETL** massive amounts of data between the machines.
We will then run some diagnostic tests and some functionality tests.
We will then cutover the DNS to point to the new server.
When the DNS resolves to the new IP address and you can see the site again, you should be good to go wild.

Updates on progress will be posted at http://twitter.com/GCA_updates

* 4-6 hours is an estimate. It could be faster it could be slower. If it's not up by the time you go to bed, assume it will be there in the morning.
** Extract, Transform and Load

*twitch* *twitch*.... unneccesary apostrophe. Gahhhh!!!

(I think Nomad and I suffer from the same reaction to apostrophes)

I blame my year one teacher for instilling the correct use so well in me.

Back on topic, good luck with the server change over and I hope the faeries take time out for a well-earned drink afterwards.

we've brought forward some of the changes so the main GCA site is now offline. sorry for the inconvenience.

at this stage the forum is still online but we will be taking it down later today, most likely this evening.

with a bit of luck by tomorrow you'll be enjoying delights of the new whiz-bang server!

we will keep you updated via http://twitter.com/GCA_updates
