FDF as well as FTF

Post by mtrax » 04 January 09 3:27 pm

I was wondering if there is enough support to add FDF (First Day find) as this would perhaps motivate newer cachers to achieve some notable reward, as sometimes FTF is hard in some places.

ie if this is useful I was wondering if it could be a new term that would become more popular than FTF.

BTW when I say FDF I really me within first 24hrs (for those late night published caches)
or perhaps a zingy name would be better like 24F.

GCA already collects these stats and you can get a graph of them.

FDF is nice but nowhere near as sweet as FTF!

We have been geocaching for just over 3 years and only had 8 FTFs, until today when I grabbed 2 FTFs :D :D :D . Whilst I dont go out of my way for a FTF it really does taste sweet to open the log book and find the blank first page. Somehow 2TF does not seem as nice, sorry.

Yah! FTF :D

Such a great feeling.
Despoiling a completely empty logbook with my scrawl is one of those moments to be savoured in caching :P
FDF just sounds lame, sorry

Oh dear I couldn't get out of bed early enough,
Oh dear I didn't see the listing come up,
Oh dear I had to drop the kids off at school on my way......etc.
But I want to share the glory with the cacher who beat me to the find so I'll log a FDF :D

Where's your competitive spirit people ?

If it's that important to someone to get a FTF, but [insert list of excuses here], then they just need to try harder! :P

Or look more rurally, I have caches in place for a week or so now that are still up for FTF ;)

Try my area, caches last a maximum of 10 minutes here.
That's why we have started calling them Fast To Find.
We have a lot of fast to find sharks here...

GCA caches seemed to be spared the FTF race. ;)
Was FTF on "Beyond The Cavern" any less sweet for its being a GCA cache, If? :D
There's a couple more waiting for you when you get a chance to do "XoE - Down The Back" 8)

My GCA caches don't last too long, but there was a GC cache in a national park here for a 2 weeks or so before I happened to hit it up and I don't think anyone else has hit it since.

I'm not sure you guys have quiet understood what I'm asking...
I'm not suggested removing/deleting or otherwise the FTF,
what I'm asking is to encourage people using the FDF, at the momemt its pretty well impossible for some people to get a FTF, so I suspect people don't even bother to try.

I don't care if people use FDF or not. FDF Hunts are a good game but not so sweet. I play FDF hunts often too - just for my own fun.

FTF Hunts are just another aspect of the game, and you don't have to play the FTF hunt game if you don't want. It isn't compulsory and in the bigger scheme it doesn't really matter. But it sure is fun playing if you are so inclined.

New cachers can't get a chance?

In Greater ACT, I beg to differ. There are some pretty aggressive new FTF hunters out there who are keen to give longer term FTF hunters a real run for their money. Jusojara, wink inc, McKenna to name just three, and there are others.

There is no adrenalin fun in FDF. I like to try to be an FDFer or early finder but it is the fun/competition of getting there first as FTF to despoil the blank log before your competitors get there. Trying to calculate the odds of whether you can drive 30km to the other side of town and sneak an FTF from under the nose of McPhan, Winglen, Tankengine, mbo etc etc is huge fun and buzz for me. Locally I am always looking for the chance to beat Tate_alec or Captain Tomato...

If you want an FTF, you have to be prepared to interrupt dinner, interrupt tv, go out late at night or very early in the morning, use instant notification, perhaps phone email, use flextime to leave work at a moment's notice, have an emergency geocaching response kit handy.
