rss feed - beta testing [closed]

Post by ideology » 17 June 04 9:12 pm

after much prodding from mind socket, we have developed some experimental RSS feeds. these feeds alert you to new caches when they are uploaded to geocaching australia

the feeds are listed at
http://geocaching.com.au/rss

an more detailed explanation of rss and how to read them is available here

please let us know how it goes

This sounds like a great idea. Saves manually checking the page before I leave work every day or when I log on at home.

Any suggestions as to which is a nice easy RSS program? Haven't used them before. Though I am pretty PC savvy will save experimentation if I get a good recommendation.

Cheers!

<font color="blue"><font face="verdana"><b>OK the WA feed seems to be working ok now, no idea what has changed?<p>One thing I noticed it has listed 'Little Miss Shining Golden' by TEAM LANDCRUISER, that is actually a Travel Bug owned by Varuna and not a cache ... the details of the cache show that it is actually 'Dingo's Knob' cache GCJGQX<p>There maybe more errors but that one stood out as we own it ... I'll keep looking around.

<font color="blue"><font face="verdana"><b>Ok here's another one Iowa Bound 2 by Varuna. Iowa Bound 2 is actually a TB as well, the cache it's pointing to is 'Kings Park Travel Bug Hotel by Varuna' GCJJ88<p>It seems if a cache has a Travel Bug in it the cache name is replaced with that of the travel bug.

richary, we are using feedreader which is a PC application. mind socket is using livejournal which is web-based. there are others listed in the links above.

tlc, thanks for letting us know
redeclaration error: that was us tweaking the code
cache naming error: we've fixed the bug and tested it on a group of caches. other caches with travel bugs were affected. the changes to these should ripple through over the next day or so

Hi
I have downloaded a rss reader but I need to get .NET Framework before it will work, can anyone point me in the right direction, or is there a reader out there that does not need the .NET Framework.
Thanks

You can get .Net here. It's not small - about 24mb.

I found FreeReader this morning and it seems to be working fine. Doesn't require .NET either. Now someone needs to post a new cache so I can see if it updates correctly.

Found FreeReader at:

www.freereader.com

Like the name says, it's free!
