Looking for people to help create an Australia wide series

Post by caughtatwork » 11 April 22 2:01 pm

Hi Y'all.

No specifics yet, but we're looking for people to help create a large, Australia wide series of geocaches, all on a particular theme.

You might be asked to hide a few geocaches (regular or larger) along with some "things" that will help finders solve a puzzle. That solution will direct the finders to a geocache in each state which is the final of the series.

A select number of people from each state or territory will also be asked to hide a special "final" cache which will the cache you find after solving the puzzle. There may be more than one "final per state" but the solution will direct you to all of them so when you solve one, you solve them all.

The puzzle will be Australia wide and is unlikely to be solved even if you find all of the contributing caches in a state. i.e. You may need to collaborate or visit interstate caches to come up with the solution to the final.

If we get enough interest a special forum will be set up so we can discuss in secret to maximise the surprise for everyone.

The series is likely also become part of a dZ quest to solve and receive non-tangible dZ rewards.

If you're interested in hiding a few regular or larger sized caches, chime in and give an indication of what state and locality and we'll move forward.

I am always keen to help GA, and I like placing larger containers. I would enjoy placing a few caches with a theme or whatever you have in mind. I can travel a fair distance for placing and maintenance, say 150km around Canberra, without too much stress.

However, I think dragonzone is more divisive than inclusive, and I'd rather not be involved with that.

Count me in. Echuca, northern Vic. I'm good for about 100km radius in Vic or NSW.

EDIT: I, personally, have no real interest in DZ. However, I'm happy to hide caches if it benefits DZ players and anyone else who happens to pass through my little part of the world.

I have edited my post.
I am in and can assist with placements and can place hides within reasonable drive from Bundaberg. Say 100 to 150 Klm

This is a dZ activity. So if you are not wanting to be involved in that then this is not for you.

Hmmmn, not enough interest initially, so I'll give this a bump for anyone else to chime in.

Is this going to be a bit like the XOE caches?

Maybe something like them. Information in these caches will be used to solve a puzzle and then the solvers can find the "final" caches (one for each state / territory). You may need to find a few, some, many or nearly all, across Australia to solve the mystery.

With GCA not having any restrictions on cache distance from home, do you recommend only hiding close to home, or can you hide one whilst on a holiday? Like, how many GCA cachers are there in the NT? I can see that cache maintenance would be an issue if far from home, and that might ruin the mystery side of things.

I'd be happy to help out with caches in Tasmania. I put out a number of the ICEM series and still look out for them while travelling.
Not sure about the puzzle info side as maintenance can be a problem if clues get removed. This could be overcome by the same info being included in a number of caches.
I'll think about it a little more as I love the idea

Your call. I would hope to have enough hides to cover missing caches and clues, but there is not quite enough interest yet. If you can prompt any of your fellow cachers who might have an interest in participating we might be able to get underway.
