I have read the rules for the upcoming game of Battleships.

I just need to clarify one point: If I HIDE a cache, it has to be during the game period, but if people want to FIND that cache, their find(s) won't qualify as part of the game?

That is how I understand it to be. It also has to be a small, regular or large hide.
I have decided to hide a few before the games start in the hope that others might as well as I have hardly any to find closeby, except a cors that I have been saving.

Correct. This avoid a past situation where someone will hide a cache for a mate to find, then archive it. i.e. It was never actually there. Alas the sins of the past are carried forward into new games where applicable.

People who "backdate" a hide for a mate to find will find themselves DQ'd.

Hi
How do I create a field? I see 3 names on the leader board but I can't see how you get yourself into the game to create a field.

Game doesn't start until 1 June

They are the three game administrators who helped set up and shakeout the game. They have no points and, like the rest of the community, do not have any idea where the ships are on their playing field. So everything is level for when the game commences on 1 July.

Thanks, Caught@work, for your prompt and clear response.

I am disappointed that it is necessary to allow for potential cheating, and I hadn't considered it, but I do see the sad necessity, now that it's been pointed out to me.

I must be stupid or naive, or both. I appreciate everybody's patience.

Games start 1 June not 1 July.

Thanks very much caught@work. I see that now. All clear. As Just a cacher said....cheating would never have crossed my mind. But disappointing to find out that there are some out there wanting to bend the rules....

Moveables (in my opinion) should be removed from being allowed to be hidden during the games to make it the same for what you can find during the games (except for Burke and Wills)

There is a reason for this.

If you hide a moveable geocache it must be there for someone to find and when it's not there is obvious.

Some people, in the past, have "found" a moveable which has no log book and don't physically "move" it (i.e. they "leave it in place") just to get the find. There is no proof that they did not find it as there is no log book.

So again, the sins of the players of the past are spoiling the games of the future.

You will find that the "unique finds" are based on the same reasoning. People "finding and moving" with a few "mates" in between just to inflate their numbers.

It's a shame that we have to apply these rules, but competition doesn't bring out the best in some people, so we have to try and make it fair for each new game we design.

I hope everyone who is able to participate has fun with this one. I am not in a postilion to participate due to the where I live and no GCA hides any where near me or any active GCA active participants and if I hide then they will just sit there with no one finding them. Again I am in limbo land due to these factors and where I live. Have fun everyone. :D
