2020 Game of Games

Post by dragonZone Guardian » 14 December 19 11:31 pm

Game Period: 01-Jan-2020 00:00:00 to 31-Jan-2020 23:59:59 AEST

Lane Cove was hidden on the 18th May 2000 which made it the first geocache on Australian soil. Geocaching Australia had a small celebration in 2010 called the 10th Anniversary of Geocaching in Australia. 20 years after the first Australia geocache was placed we are now marking the 20th anniversary of Geocaching in Australia. To help celebrate the 20th anniversary of Geocaching in Australia, the 2020 team at Geocaching Australia have worked together to create the 2020 Game of Games rewards which are 12 monthly games based on finding and hiding geocaches at Geocaching Australia.

Geocaching Australia has minted a special 20th Anniversary 2020 Game of Games pathtag to be made available as a reward to participants who qualify and are randomly selected to receive the reward.

To qualify for this month you will need to:

Hide and publish 3 geocaches.

Geocache type must be traditional.

The geocache size must be regular or large.

The hidden date must be in the game month.

The published date must be in the game month.

Guidelines:

An announcement with the details for each game will be made on the 15th of the preceding month to give you time to plan your hides or finds to achieve the goals.

Each game will have different target in terms of numbers, types, containers and date restrictions.

Each monthly game is standalone. You cannot carry forward qualifying geocaches from previous months.

There is no ladder for the 12 games of 2020; only qualifiers.

You gain a qualifying entry into the game by achieving the targets set.

At the end of the month there will be 10 random geocachers chosen from all those who qualified in that month to receive a reward.

Each game will share the same 20th Anniversary 2020 Game of Games pathtag.

You only qualify once for each game regardless of whether you meet the find qualification, hide qualification or both.

You are eligible to win more than one prize over the 12 months of the 2020 Game of Games if you qualify for that months game.

The decision of the administrators is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Prize winners will be notified within one week of the months game ending.

Hi DragonZone Guardian

Thank you for the new game - really like the concept of having to hide caches as part of the game. As I have said before if nobody hides caches we don't have a game!

I believe I have hidden my caches for this game, but how do you confirm that your entry has gone in and no mistakes have been made? Is there a page I should go to?

Have you qualified for the January pathtag draw yet? Have you set up your 3 regular/large caches but are still to publish them? Well, as it's now the 15th January, it's time to get things finalised and get yourself into the draw. Remember, at the end of January all those who have qualified by publishing 3 regular/large caches, will go into the draw and 10 of those cachers will grab the first of our 20th Anniversary Celebration pathtags.

Also, as it's the 15th of the month today, we can announce the requirements for our February edition of the 2020 Game of Games. To go into the draw at the end of February to win one of our 20th Anniversary Celebration pathtags you will need to complete the following:

Find and log 5 physical* geocaches.

The log date must be in the game month.

The log must be made in the game month.

*Physical geocaches are:
Moveable, Beacon, Gadget, Burke & Wills, Reverse, Multi, Night, Podcache, Augmented Reality, Traditional, Unknown or TrigPoint.

The good thing about February this year is of course you have an extra day to find and log caches....so all fairly simple really.

Good luck for both the rest of the January game and for February when it rolls around....

How are you going in the February Game of Games? Remember, you only need to log a Find log on 5 physical caches during the game period (1-29 February) to be in the draw to win one of our 20th Anniversary Pathtags. To date there are 32 qualifiers.

Being the 15th of the month, its now time to also announce the requirement for our March Game of Games.

To qualify for March you simply need to:

Attend and log an Attended log at an event held on 28th March 2020.

The log date must be the 28th March 2020 and the log must be made in the game month.

So, get together with other Geocaching Australia cachers, set up an event to be held on the 28 March and ensure your Attended log is completed before the game period expires.

Good luck.....

Have you decided which Geocaching Australia event/s you are attending on Saturday 28 March 2020? Do you have one close to where you live? If not, you could plan to hold your own. There may be other cachers in your area who need to attend an event close by. Remember, to go into the draw to win one of our 2020 Game of Games pathtag, you need to attend and log an ‘Attended’ log at a Geocaching Australia held on 28 March 2020. Your log must be dated 28 March 2020.

Also, our April Game of Games is coming up soon. To qualify for the April draw, you will have 2 options. These are:

Find and log 5 physical* geocaches.
The log date must be in the game month.
The log must be made in the game month.

*Physical geocaches are:
Moveable, Beacon, Gadget, Burke & Wills, Reverse, Multi, Night, Podcache, Augmented Reality, Traditional, Unknown or TrigPoint.

== OR ==

Hide and publish 3 physical* geocaches.
The hidden date must be in the game month.
The published date must be in the game month.
*Physical geocaches are:
Moveable, Beacon, Gadget, Burke & Wills, Reverse, Multi, Night, Podcache, Augmented Reality, Traditional, Unknown or TrigPoint.

Good luck to all who enter the April game. With a lot of cachers on the road during the month, there will no doubt be a lot of qualifiers….

Virtual Events
Due to the recent COVID-19 Pandemic and the general advice that gathering in large groups is not recommended, if you are not comfortable with travelling and meeting others at a physical event, then you may create and log a "Virtual" attendance event where you can make your attended without leaving your home. This will be in the spirit of this event and this month which celebrates the anniversary of Geocaching Australia.

Have you been reading draft caches here? Or is it just a case of great minds thinking alike? I have finally tested Hangouts with MattyRx and we are good to go. Event published.

geocaching.com.au/cache/ga14515 can be found in the geographical centre of Australia, in the Northern Territory. Please go have a look and share the event on appropriate Geocaching Australia related social media stuffs.

Are virtual events just for the 28th of March or is the format available for other events during the COVID-19 travel and meeting restrictions?

I was just thinking it could be a good way to help cachers going stir crazy during the next few weeks.

You are welcome to hold virtual events. We're not going to get in your way if you are having an event online via video conferencing, or phone conferencing or via text or chat. An event, ia an event, is an event whether you are physically together or not as long as you are all enjoying being social.

The lack of rules stating what you can and what you cannot do is the primary reason Geocaching Australia exists as a listing site.

If people abuse the openness of the site listings, then it will be the community that will punish, not the website.

Thanks for the clarification C@W, after seeing the post on facebook I wondered if we could use virtual events to keep us from going stir crazy during these hard times.

I'll be adding VC to my event on Saturday and gauge how other cachers feel about virtual events and go from there.

I had a thought tonight. If we are being encouraged not to go outside and play, to keep us geocaching to a degree, we could come up with some creative "lockdown locationless" caches to do in and around our homes.

Just a thought.
