I have re-read the rules of the game.

Is a 'scavenge' a find? A geocache?

A scavenge is what you need to do in relation to a cache. The examples below are the first few that I completed in last years game.

1. Find and log a geocache that has not been found in 1 calendar year or more. This example required me to find a cache that had not been found in 1 calendar year or more. Once I managed to find a cache/trig that met that scavenge, I had completed that scavenge and I could claim it for the game.

2. Find and log a geocache with a hidden date in 2014. This example required me to find a cache that was hidden in 2014. Once I managed to find a cache/trig that was hidden in 2014, I had completed that scavenge and I could claim if for the game.

I think the others listed below should be self explanatory......

3. Find and log a geocache with the word 'big' in the geocache name

4. Hide and publish a geocache with the name 'australia' in the geocache name

5. Hide and publish a geocache with the word 'scavenger' in the geocache name

6. Hide and publish a Locationless geocache

I know you don't think the word scavenge is a real word...you've said so in this thread and you said it to me at last years SSS games information event. I found it a dictionary so as far as I'm aware its all good. I also don't think its a big deal. The idea of the game is to get more GCA caches hidden, more cachers playing in the GCA space and to give GCA cachers something more in their caching time to enjoy and be a part of. If it also gives something back to those cachers who have supported us over the years, that's good as well.

If the use of the word scavenge does all that......I'm all for it.

It is a word, it just isn't a noun. And yes, it does matter. It is a big deal. Get it right.

We could achieve all the goals you mentioned and still use the correct words for the situation - without even breaking a sweat.

I went to an event tonight. It was called "Ciao". As a word in a sentence in its originated use I believe it is not a noun but an interjection. As the 'title of an event' it was a noun. No? "Are you going to the Ciaoing party?", just doesn't seem to work. And if Ciao can be used as a noun - meh - it's just one current example.

I understand the use of Scavenge as a noun is probably not good grammar (see what I did there), and it's good to teach correct grammar, but hey, it's just a game not a novel. Imagine if we corrected everyone who wrote terrible logs on our cache pages... :-k

Bring on the double-plus-good dictionary! So fewer words to worry about.

PS - If you'd like to correct my post for me, that's fine. I actually want to become a better writer.

I am trying to recruit more Tassie players. Go Tassie!!!!. As I understand it, the games this year do not require you to be a member of a dragon zone clan just a GCA member with a home state selected. Once I have got them doing GCA caches I will try to get them to join a clan {Minotaur of course!). Thanks.

The games are under the dragonzone area so think that you would have to be in a clan as well as nominating your state even though it doesn't specifically say this on the games page.

Being part of dragonZone will not be a requirement for participating in States of the Nation game.

Do all cache type apply to the listed scavenger categories, eg moveables, virtuals and geocacher?
The way I read it is that they do, just some are lower in points is that correct??

Yep, that's correct. Any cache type that shows up in the values list at the bottom of this page: http://geocaching.com.au/dragonzone/gam ... scavenges/ is fair game.

I cannot log a cache for 'Find and log a geocache that has not been found in 120 days or more', as I got the error reply that said, 'Find and log a geocache that has not been found in 120 days or more' can only be claimed against a geocache that has not been found in 120 calendar years or more.' Seems a mistake in programming.
