Importing finds. We get a feed regularly for all Australia and NZ. We sometime miss logs. You can learn about importing here:Chrisval7 wrote:As a relatively new member, I admit to being frequently bamboozled and confused about not only the forum but caching as well at times. The issue of the need to separately log a find (when you cache as a couple) comes to mind.
I am familiar with the board here (PhpBB) but not with the intricacies of importing finds automatically, for example.
I would love to have had a warmly welcoming message. In fact I initially found the forum a bit cliquey and almost as though new members were not really welcome. I now suspect that impression was wrong
What would be wonderful is a mentor who could be contacted for advice. But I do realise the imposition that would be for such forum items.
The forums look cliquey, because they are. We are all from different backgrounds and geographic regions. Caching in one region can be very different to another. So when a simple question is asked, sometimes you get half a dozen responses, all of which are valid for any given geographic region. Trouble is some people may never have chanced in a radically different region so don't appreciate or understand that someone only an hour away from them plays the game in a very different way. Support for position A or B then appears to be cliquey. It's not really (despite what I said above), it just looks that way.
You can contact a local Guru here:
They will try and meet with you and help you through any understanding you like. You can always ask in the forums. You might get very different opinions, but you can choose which one you like and play the game the way you would like to play it. Be aware that some people will be 100% adamant about the way you should play the game, being aligned to the way they play the game, but you don't have to follow their advice. Take it all with a grain of salt and choose the game you want to play. Do write your name in the logbook if you want to log it online. That's probably a big big bear for a lot of people.
