Caches in National Parks

Post by FlyingPigSquadron » 16 February 11 1:52 pm

What are the rules about caches in National Parks ?
18 months ago we were refused a cache in a NP in NSW and were queried about one we set overlooking, but not in, a NP, yet this morning we found 5 new caches set yesterday in Wilsons Prom NP

There is no Parks Victoria policy for placing caches anywhere.
This differs to NSW.
As such, caches can be placed anywhere (subject to the usual guidelines at GC, and no restrictions at GCA).

Hi FlyingPigSquadron

Geocaching has actually been banned in NSW National Parks since around 2002, though nobody knew about it. They eventually contacted GC who stopped listing any new ones. If you head over to the NSW section of the forum there is more detail there, however following negotiations between Geocaching NSW and Parks caching is once again permitted. There is a process to follow and the cache location requires approval by the local Parks representative.

There is also more information at http://www.geocachingnsw.asn.au with links to the form to be completed and contact details for the various parks, as well as the restrictions that are in place.

Thanks caughtatwork and Richary for this info. We will now set to and place all the caches we've been planning in the Prom for the past year, keeping the fragile environment in mind at all times.

If you are talking Wilson's Prom in Vic then none of the info on NSW is relevant, but your profile didn't say where you were from. So yes there are rules in NSW, that will possibly flow on to Queensland. The rest of the country is free game as far as I know.

I presume 3959 is Fish Creek, Hoddle, Sandy Point, Waratah Bay and Waratah North, so that would be Victorian.
