Only getting the new post 12 hours later than published?

Post by stevenwill » 02 January 08 10:10 pm

Help! I seem to only be getting new cache postings +/- 12 hours after they are published! I have tried refreshing my browsers cache, with a full reload, with no joy  . I am only a basic member could this possibly be the problem?
While I noticed this a while ago, I have definitly proved this on one of the latest publishings.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you for your help in advance

Steve

One of the Premium Membership features is the "Instanotify" Notification Service....the perks of a couple of dollars per month. :P

Snippets from the relevant GC page:

- As new logs are posted to Geocaching.com you can get an instant email sent to you with the contents of that log entry.

- You can subscribe to a location and whenever certain logs are entered by geocachers in that area, you receive an email. The new "publish" log type will allow you to be the first one in your area to get notified of a new listing.

Hope that helps

Do you mean if you go to the new caches page at geocaching.com, or on the new caches pages here on GCA?

I mean if I log into geocaching.com and ask it to show me the new caches.

Thank you

Initially I thought this was just me but today I have confirmed that the cache that I have just completed was only visible to me 12-14 hours after publication and have no idea why!

Thanks for the replies, it seems to be a geocaching.com problem then, just affecting me more because I'm just a basic member in seach of a FTF and rather slow off the blocks!
May you all have a great geocaching day

They aren't ones that appeared and then were unapproved briefly for whatever reason while the approver asked for more info by any chance? That's been reported before.

If you post which cache I am sure one of the approvers will say if that was the case.

I noticed that the cache doesn't show up in the "List nearest in the ACT" but it does show up in the search from home coordinates.

Perhaps they materialize the first query because it is extremely popular and rerun by many people (saves load on the server), whereas the home searches are much more infrequent and only used by 1 person so the result set isn't cached.

Anyway that is my hypothesis.

Another thought could be that it doesn't show up until the day it was listed ticks over in the US! <P>Could explain the long wait. I know a few users were having problems logging a date that hadn't clicked over in the US.
