I saw a great one yesterday, it was a Moxie tin (Feminine hygiene product) sanded and painted black, a great size and the lid fits well.

I have waterproof tested moxie tins. They don't hold up well, not watertight in the least.

I prefer Sistema Clip Lock containers for the Tassie conditions. Also common here (unfortunately) are second hand lunch boxes which are not very watertight (if at all)...avoid them wherever possible!

I've only seen the one moxie tin and it was quite dry but will scrathc them off my possible container list!

We've used quite a few of those screw top fruit containers. They hold about a litre so are good for small swaps and TB's. They seem to hold up quite well to the weather around the Central West area of NSW and we've seen a few around south of here.

They'd be great for a well sheltered spot such as under a park bench.

And you get a sweet aroma surprise when you open the lid :)

Here in tassie there are a fair few of these...quite lot of them end up getting nibbled by the critters (doesn't seem to matter how well you clean them, the native animals still find em tasty!)

A magpie dismantled my plastic rain gauge a few months ago just for kicks, so I wouldn't doubt if they muggle the occasional cache :P He removed a 4x5 cm chunk of 4mm thick HDPE from the corner of it, which must have been no small task.

Camstal, I have to say I would doubt the watertightness of some of the caches out your way. I may be wrong, but would not like to see them after heavy consistant rain.

Oh thats right, it doesnt rain out there, except last Monday morning when I was passing through on the bike.

We are using 100mm stormwater fittings these days, although the screw top lids can be hard to undo.
