Why :?
Because it makes finding the next waypoint of GCXHKH http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... ca7d002ea4 much easier.
Of course you could try following the arrow on the GPSr, but that's not recommended in that terrain.
A great case for an Ozi equip PPC

Well yeah, except we already have a Phone/PDA which solves the phone/camera/in car navigation (Tomtom)/cache notes problem, but doesn't have a powerful enough processor to run OziExplorer (believe me we've tried).

Can't justify ANOTHER piece of expensive electronic equipment...

My wall keeps the rabbits out, not phones up.

I'm using an I-mate JAMin, runs Windows Mobile 5.0. The processing power is lower than other PDAs which has the advantage of better battery life, but if you try to run Ozi it pretty much kills it. Has to think for about 20 seconds every time you try and move a map a bit. Or zoom in.

Contents of my ever present backpack:
GPSr
Cameras (SLR and compact)
Mini Pen
Mini Sharpie
A scrap of paper
Tradeables
Flashlight (I carry 3 pen sized ones, and a small hand held one. I have 2 more in the car. I got lost in the dark without one once, not eager to repeat that!)
Water
Bear Spray
Spare ziplock bags. (Most are for my camera gear if it rains, my backpack leaks.)
Batteries
Compass
Energy Bars
Bandages
Dental Floss
Nailfile (I HATE breaking a nail!!)

I think you'll find that DVixen isn't talking about the dreaded Drop Bear, but the much more timid and cuddly creatures, the black bear, the grizzly bear, the brown bear and the polar bear!

And I agree Dvixen - tearing a nail really is awful. I always manage to scratch myself with a jagged end, if I dont pack my nail file..... :D

Getting slightly less cuddly, but timid? Awww..shucks...

Not a lot of people know that Drop-bears were introduced into Germany in the 19th century and thrived in the Black Forest region of Bavaria, becoming quite a pest. The resourceful Germans came up with a protective device that, when issued to and worn by millions of men, caused the drop-bear to become extinct by 1930.

As you can see, by the late 1930's, the spike was no longer required and was removed to stop the frequent and embarrassing sitting down incidents...
