Geocaching Kit

Post by livandmez » 25 June 07 11:40 pm

Hi all, I know this topic may be in here somewhere, but rather than go trawling through the lot, I thought I would ask for peoples ideas on a geocaching kit - some suggestions on what to take on hunts would be great! Thanks, livandmez

At the WMD event on the week-end we arranged a talk on basic first aid and some essentials you should carry around in your caching pack. Spin Doc Bob had the video out so watch out for the next GeoTalk video Podcast to get the low down.

I don't have a car so have to carry everything so besides first aid stuff I take a torch, a gardening glove (for reaching into scary places), a handtowel, a pack of wetwipes, sunscreen, insect repellant, a hat, a map, and atm a screwdriver and a teaspoon!

I just keep a hat, sunnies, Leatherman, compass, pen, spare pen, the GPS and a small container of swaps in my backpack, which I take everywhere.

Sometimes I also throw in gloves and a torch. If I'm going caching, I usually take a water bottle as well.

I know some people take spares in case the cache needs maintenance, such as a spare container, ziplock bag, log book, but I've never quite gotten around to that myself.

I always carry a couple of spare batteries along with the rest of my stuff.

Here's a list I found when I first started (scroll down a bit):

All those things above and a piece of wire to get those pesky micro caches out of holes that your hand won't fit into. I have had to use it several times, bent with a hook on the end.

You forgot the staple.

Need a staple to hold the pages together. Or at very the least a paper clip.

Not that annoying paperclip but.

Who's that ugly 'rural' mug?

Looks familiar

I was on a filter system at work and didn't display the pictures before my previous post about staples.

We have found that the waterless hand washing "stuff" is handy to have.
