Trackables theft don't happen, right.

Post by Aushiker » 08 February 07 5:37 pm

G'day

I thought I would share this little gem.
I guess you dont read well. You've done a great injustice to this game by not allowing discovers. Your bug will be held at the bottom of the sea in my booty until you change your ways.

A bounty is out on all your trackables to all pirates world wide to collect as many of your items as possible. Until you learn the mistake taken.

The Pirate
This was sent to me in respect to my trackable, Bowler Grolsch and my standard email to the retriever of same which is as follows:
G'day

Thanks for retrieving my trackable, Browler Grolsch. I do hope you like it and I look forward to seeing where it goes next. If you can place this coin as per objectives you may go in the draw for a small prize. Check the coins page to see if this is a competition coin.

Also, if you get a chance to add a photo to your log that would be great as well!

Happy caching
Andrew
Comments in the geocaching.com forums suggest this person has been around for a little while.

From my basic understanding of fraud which is similar to this action (another form of stealing), the need to justify one's actions is quite common. So it seems I am the cause of this persons need to steal others property, i.e., trackables. Interesting to experience this phenomena.

I just hope this person gets some real satisfaction out of doing this and the bug brings them great joy because otherwise it is really pretty sad for them.

Regards
Andrew

Someone should tell the GeocoinPirate that this is a Travel Bug Image

Disappointing to see that Groundspeak didn't even bother to close their account. Even though it's a sock puppet, it might have been a start.

Thanks for the reminder Cached and for the reminder about Eartha's attitude. Had forgotten about that thread.

Looks like the person is back.

I would suggest immediately contacting geocaching.com and advising them of the situation.

He's only got one trackable listed, so I'd guess he's a fraudster and hasn't actually nicked any.

Read the other thread - he's nicked heaps. The owners removed them virtuall y from him so he wouldn't have the pleasure of their icons to gloat over.

I don't understand how you draw that conclusion from the log posted on the trackable's page and the persons response to me which I posted here.

Are you suggesting that I am to blame for the person retrieving the trackable from the cache and then writing the log they wrote all because I won't allow discovery logs?

Andrew

Already done so, but not holding my breath.

I have another idea in mind based on the little bit I know/teach in respect to fraud.

Will post it here when I finalise it.

Sounds interesting but I don't know if it will go far in our little game.

From my quick read of the logs, didn't the faud/theft occur in the US (Tennessee) where you would have to appear in court. A little too costly to pursue someone over a TB.

It's sad that some people have to cause these types of problems. I notice that something similar recently happen in Perth. (a TB was held for ransom at a cache I can't remember.)

Getting too heated about it probably won't get if fixed though. More likely to give you an ulcer. Theft happens everyday in every area and every community. Geocaching isn't exempt.

Who is suggesting that?

Who are you referring to? Me? If you are you are then you are mistaken. I was just sharing my experience. See my opening post and my posts on geocaching.com. Hardly getting "heated about it" as you put it.

Hi

I missed this earlier on but the cache where the travel bug was, is a subscriber cache. This makes things more interesting.

It didn't hit me until this was pointed out but one of the three cachers listed as visiting the cache did discuss with me about the not allowing discovery logs.

I thought we had discussed and resolved the issue but maybe not.

Will be interesting to see what Groundspeak comes up with if anything.

Andrew
