Oz Bug Race 2004. ( OBR-4 )

Post by Team Piggy » 03 February 04 11:43 pm

It's about to start ! The first Australian Travel Bug Race.

England to Australia, just like the convicts !

All bugs will start from a South Australian cache, and be transported over to old blighty with GeoDean. (If it turns out that the bugs are of a larger capacity and weight, we will have to go to the backup of using a postal courier to send the bugs over to the release point).
Once there they will have a release to make their way back to that cache in South Australia that they departed from.
First in wins !

If bugs are going via air with GeoDean closing date is 20/02/2004.

There is naturally rules to be followed.

  • 1. Due to the amount of interested parties, we have decided to go with the courier option to the UK, bacause of this we will need to charge an entry fee of $5.00 for each bug racer. Leftover money will be used as prizes !
    2. Mail address removed due to the 150 spams and viruses a day hitting the server !!! Use a PM if you need to contact me.
    3. There is no rule 3. continue on children.
    4. Items must be no larger than a tennis ball size in capacity.
    5. Items must not be of a dangerous nature or prohibited article.
    6. Items must confirm to Postal rules. see http://www1.auspost.com.au/international/ and enter United Kingdom to see the restrictions for that country. (Kangaroo nuts not allowed ).
    7. Any items that arrive and are deemed to not comply by the organisers will result in an email notification to the Bug owner to discuss options.
    8. Limit of Bug racers in this years bug race is around 20.. First in first served. Please notify us of your intentions on the email adress in point 2 above.
    9. Organisers are in no way repsonsible for any loss or damage (Death !) caused to TBÂ’s entered into OBR-4.
    10. Bugs must be logged into at least one cache in the UK (After initial release cache)
    11. The Travelbug racer has to be placed in at least 5 caches by 5 different geocachers, and in 1 other country other than Australia and the United Kingdom.
    12. The Travelbug may not be posted directly back to Australia.
    13. The Geocacher that grabbes the Travelbug must also be the one that puts it in the next cache.
    14. These rules will be modified after the start of the race to omit un-needed data.
    15. Prizes are:
Ø First & second back to an Australian cache (Not a virtual cache).
Ø First / Second to home cache.
Note :!: Please do not attach travel bug tags to your Kids... (though Langy, can missdemeanour do dishes ? )

Postal details for Bugs to get to the starting point:

Items may be a "little " larger, we just have to be smart about the sizing of things for the transport. (EG a CD case would be accepted due to its structure).
I do suspect that as Poor old GeoDean is pretty close to his baggage limit already :!: , that the courier may have to be used.
This means that the bugs can be packed into a larger box than he would have originally taken, hence size can be "played" with.
One must also remember, that a lot of caches nowadays cannot take a large sized object, so your bug if larger may get stuck in "geo-space" awaiting a large enough cache on the holders next find. :?

Ours is on its way. Sorry but it is a bit larger than a tennis ball however it can be squashed and squished into a smaller size.
Good luck everyone.
