This race is getting expensive, what with mail ordering the toys from the US, and now sending one to the UK.

Maybe it's a training wheel for the unicycle?

Pleased that the original turned up, but not happy that it turned up a day after I sent the replacement. I can hear the porcine "I told you so" already.

On the positive side, I now have a spare in the UK in case it goes missing again.

That'd be a bicycle, right?

Helping hand question

Post by dankell » 10 May 04 10:03 pm

Hi guys

Picked up "I come from a land down under" at the weekend with the intention of moving him on to London when I work out where he can fit...

However another possibility has come up and I thought I'd check whether it was OK with the rules.

I can give the Bug a big helping hand in the race, but only by Proxy. My mother-in-law is visiting her husband in Thailand and there is a cache in his town - she is willing to place the bug for me (and was there when we found him ;))

So, shall I go ahead - or is the bug london bound?

I personally don't see a problem with it.
Your mother-in-law is obviously part of your caching team ... right?

If so then this complies with the rule: The geocacher that grabs the bug must also be the one that puts it in the next cache.

But if not, well...

But let see what the umpires have to say first. 8)

Uni, Told you so... :P

As for the other matter.

Is the bug to be posted ?
If so, it does not really fit the sporting challenge of the game ! Or the rules really.

Have you had a look at how slow Thailands caches get found ? I know I own 4 or more of them ! I have cached thru thailand 3 times in the past 3 years.
A lot of the caches are empty or "muggled" when you get to them.
And most finds end up being Dutch or swedish backpackers !
So the bug may end up going back to where it came from ??

I will be in Thailand and China myself in a few weeks too ! Peculiar !

What particualr cache is in his hometown ? That bug probably wont fit in any of the Thai caches that I have seen.
Let me know which one and I will tell you the sizes of the cache you are describing, thats if I know it  .

Stargazer - mil is part of the team when we are caching in her area - or if she is here when we are caching :)
Piggy, this was the other strand of the reason I posted this up.
The cache in question would be this one:
GCF6BF

which is in Pattaya

The cache would be being taken there in person by my mother in law - certainly no posting involved. However she is not going there till mid next week, and may not get to the cache itself until later in the fortnight (although my fil is in Pattaya, so would probably be sooner)

So if the admin think it is OK, do the 2 dogs want the bug to make this journey?? It has been active recently, however, as Piggy says, thailand can be slow. And has the bug enough stops already to go home???

Your call, as long as it is not posted it meets the rules.
I dont think the bug will fit in that cache too well, it doesnt look to big in the pictures !

Thought that the cache looked small - however one of the current bugs doesn't look too small either...

Mother in Law is getting cold feet about taking the bug to Thailand (did you pack this yourself etc...) so it looks like the bug is bound for a London based cache this weekend. Doesn't bode well for the Thai bugs that I was planning to have brought to the UK either... :(

Sorry if I got anyones hopes up. I will try and find a nice large, quick moving cache to get him on his way 8)

Our little bear can be squished up quite small. I think I would rather he stay in London instead of getting muggled in Thailand but if the dates of the mother in law and the Thai traveller coincide then it would be worth a shot.
I just own it and sit back and watch it travel. Good luck my little friend.

London it is then
I will try and place him this wekend - just need to think of a cache that a) is popular, b) will fit him, c) isn't at the end of a multi (the first few large ones I can think of are) or d) won't get muggled.

Cheers, Dan
