I would be keen to see the 2006 as a sort of template if the designer of that coin has no objection. Some continuity with the look would make the coins sorta kinda like a set.

Replace the Roo with another fluffy animal (I like platypus personally), incorporate a southern cross somewhere in the background, re-open the stoush about the logo use on the other side - or maybe that where the landscape shot goes (how we would go with a consensus view is anyone's guess)

for an icon...how about the Ashes?

I think the easiest way is probably what ADAcache did - come up with something, put it up for discussion, take on advice, finalise, organise and sell.

Somebody needs to take responsibility and ownership to move it forwards - which it looks like you're doing. Bravo.

It sounded like adacache had plans for a 2007 coin but as yet nothing has been said and i haven't heard back from him by email.
I like the template idea too - unfortuantely the die for the back is not physically reusable unless it can be filled and re-engraved?

I didn't mean use the same die - just to continue the overall look of the 2006 coin. However I would love to hear of ADAcache's thoughts before we charge off and trample over any of plans already made.

I do like the idea of a Kookaburra on the coin. Laughing, laughing, laughing at the expense of those silly people looking for boxes in the sun!

We are in the very early stages of designing a personal coin - have contacted a designer and have submitted some thoughts and now are waiting in the queue before he can start on it. So anything that I can learn along with way will be put to good use.

If it is a commitee design then maybe a platypus is more appropriate :D

The Kiwi coin was made by Hex the Kiwi without NZ input as far as I know. The NZ committee never finalised their design.

Adacache I believe missed the middle man or was the middle man on the last coin and dealt directly with the minter. Thus reducing the final cost.

If we were to use one side of the original die and change the Kangaroo or face design it would also save set-up costs.

I also don't believe the logo is an issue. The senate as such has expressed their lack of desire in discussing the issue.

There was nothing in the first post to suggest this is a senate issue... :?

my take

Post by ADAcache » 07 December 06 6:14 am

I am not currently in a position time wise to run another coin buy. In the end the first coin took a considerable amount of time to arrange, stuff and deliver, and with my current move to a new job has to take priority.
I have no problem with someone else using any part of my design to make a second coin, and to that end if you would like the image files as a start point PM me and I will send them on.

BTW Put me down for a couple if someone else does a coin!!!!

It's never been discussed in the senate area of the site.
And it probably IS still an issue with some.

HI ADAcache-well reusing the back of yours would be nice for continuity. Which mint was it?
I'm not much into stuffing envelopes myself and DEFINITELY allergic to customs forms but for a small fee this can be outsourced:)
Anyway the Italians are at it

Shall I get some artwork options started? There will be no need to commit any significant personal funds as i think a presale will take care of that and significantly lower the price and make it possible to perhaps mint keep and release pairs

Ok no time artwork yet but how does either of these sound:
"australian odyssey" Ulysses butterfly theme coin

This can be done I think really well as a transparent enamel having seen a taiwan coin the irridescent efect is mimiced by slightly angling cuts into the metal underlay but it's not 3d
- may also work with completely transparent sections like a suncatcher
- and there is a nice option for a micro shaped coin same icon

2.generic coin with map cutout/removable map to fit map shaped micro series featuring something from each state staggered over the year
